Hi has anyone had any dealings with these people? I was giving a leaflet on saturday after a race and was told they could make me a faster runner after only 6 weeks. I looked at there website www.sism.ie (sorry dont know how to do links?) and it looks impressive but after 6 weeks they look like they at full pelt and i dont know if you could keep that up over race distance? So if anyone has used them i would like to hear your experiences with them and are they expensive i asked the girl but would not give me a straight answer. Thanks

I did this program earlier in the year. It is designed to make you run more efficiently. I was having a lot of problems with my hamstring and the training really helped. I've no connection with the lads involved. It's not some miracle gimmick that will have you breaking records but it definitely made me a smoother, better runner and as I said injury free after a busy year. Martin is the lad who runs it, give him a call and chat to him. I recommend it anyway.

It looks like they have some experience in the area of strength and conditioning. They could well be helpful in those areas. It's impossible to tell from a website though.

P.S. Seeing as it's the topic of the moment I'd steer clear of their orthotics. They don't look like the ones that are typically prescribed by a professional orthotist or podiatrist and there's no indication that they have any experience or training in the area.

Is it similar to the Chirunning courses I wonder?

Where they analyse your run and tell ya what you are doing wrong and how to run more naturally. I always meant to go to that course, but times never suited.

Yes thats what she said they would watch you run and then tell you where you are going wrong and then help you run more naturally. I might give them a ring and make an appointment but am worried about getting into a course i dont need.

They did a clinic in the Clayton Hotel around this time last year and while I didn't attend, my wife was there, I got the feedback from her.

It should be viewed more as a coaching service where your run is analysed, you're given feedback and a program to improve and then you're monitored over the period.

They also gave an indication of injuries you might be prone to or currently suffering on the basis of the video analysis on the treadmill. This opens the door to degrees of pronation and possibly orthotics.

My view, join a running club with coached sessions.

I have seen their website evolving in the last year or so.

I don't know them at all (I know surprising);) but I always think that small business which evolve quietly but remain around for a few years is always good !

I would not mind to have hear more about them.

Why dont you save your money and join the local running club. There you will meet people who actualy have experience of proper training methods. There is no proper way to run, even at elite level there are a multitude of styles.Trying tochange your natural style is very difficult and most likely harmful, anyway when your fatigued you will revert to your natural style. The people involved in this running school have no running experience and are applying theory only. Not every good running coach has running experience but all have hands on knowlege and not just book learned theory.

I agree and disagree if you don't mind. I am not sure about their experience so won't comment on this.

I do believe that postural work can be done, if you look when you run some people have some really "weird" way to run. (I hope I won't upset anybody). and they do hurt themselves. This is where some coaches are important, advising people on posture, running shoes etc.....

I agree with you that if you run occasionally local clubs are definitely the way to go and a great investment for a very small amount of money.

But some people are not in clubs for what ever reasons, and if some look to get something new, extra, or learn something they would not learn in their club, then I would just say "why not" ?

We all buy things, like GPS, online software, gear which are suppose to make us faster, so we just like new things and try them out.

A personal example, I had with Catherina McKiernan after my back surgery, I could not do my strides as I use to do so I changed it, and it does not hurt anymore.

I agree many people go back to their natural position, good or not and it's why we see so many different style at international level. So I am 60/40 on that comment going toward your comment :)
