    DON'T use cheap chargers - they charge slower and at different voltages and can fry the phone.

    Doesn't need to be a rip off Apple charger but at least grab a half-reputable brand like Kensington or some such.

    Agree 100 percent! If you want to charge your phone in the car buy the usb ash tray one where you can plug in your charger that came with the phone!

    You can get yokes which have the cigarette->USB adapter and a USB->iPhone cable. €15 blips or so but when the phone is worth €600 odd whats a few euro extra. Apple will screw you if you damage the phone yourself and charging it with pure shíte out of a pound shop is the stupidest way to do that ;)

    I actually have an inverter in the car so I'm using the charger off an older iPhone plugged into that, charges at a proper speed too cos it's off 230V but costs a few quid more that €15 to buy :P

    Works for me, the charger can't get stuck in the phone or if it does, thats apples baby!

    Spot on! Not only can they fry the phone but they can start fires as well.

    Think about it....these things are made in China.....materials, manufacturing, shipping and distribution costs to Europe.....and the shop in William Street still needs to make a profit on them.

    Now think about the quality of the components that's likely gone into them....bearing in mind that certified components (e.g. fuses) and flame retardant plastics are all cost adders.

    Kensington, Belkin etc. have reputations to protect and I would have greater confidence that the will do the right thing in desiging critical components for safety.

    No. it's not. Trust me, I sell the things for a living.

    Apple will screw you sideways.

    If it's a third party USB adapter that's really crap quality with their USB cable they'd be within their rights to say you used a non-compliant charger and void the warranty, yes.

    The Kensington stuff has the made for iPod/iPhone logo as far as I recall so they'd be fine with that. That said you can pay megabucks for stuff that isn't apple approved and still technically be voiding the warranty, but if it's decent quality chances are it won't fry the phone in the first place.

    Moral of the story: you get what you pay for ;)

    These are cigarette -> USB.
    They come with their own multi-end cable but you can also plug your phones stock cable into the USB socket.

    I cant remember the shop name on Henry St I should be around there today again I'll check.
