IMAP and Eircom.net

A friend of mine need to access his eircom.net email with his new iPhone, while he is out and about. He has eircom broadband at home. 60% of his emails are spam/junk.

Does IMAP work with eircom.net? What's the best solution/app for the above. I imagine that the web browser would be too cluttered for iPhone use on eircom.net

Any suggestions .... bearing in mind that I am quite computer literate but I have never even held an iphone in my hand, let alone set one up!

POP would not be practical as he does not want to delete important messages from the server from his iPhone

    hi eirman,

From reading the setting page on eircom broadband , they use pop3,(a different method of getting mail).

you can use the setting from eircom directly with a iphone, but personally i use gmail . i get gmail to collected the email from eircom. gmail then filters the email for spam and so on . i then collect the email from gmail with the built in email apps its has .

Thanks for the reply - How do you link eircom & gmail ?

POP3 is not really an option as it deletes emails from the server. He want to retrieve all emails to PC (unviewed and already viewed) when he gets home.

    go to your gmail account,
    look for gmail setting ,
then look for accounts and import tabs

    gmailrb.jpg

Then look for the Add pop3 account button .
Google will then walk you through a setup wizard to collect your email from eircom

Eircom switched to Zimbra Email server last year so it isn't as dreadful as before.
The mobile version of the webmail is at...

You can also get eircom Webmail (mobile) by free texting WEBMAIL to 50123.
More information on this is available here http://www.eircom.net/mobile-edition/mobile-webmail/

By using the http://m.eircom.net/webmail link on your phone browser you can not only access emails but also get access contacts, tasks and reminders. Very convenient!
