    Thank you!

But this is referring to Saorview only, are there others?

Do you think my equipment is suitable?

Assuming you are in range of saorview signals, the terratec will pickup the signal but the software supplied as standard does not decode the mpeg4 video signals. A third party software like vlc will be required to view any tv channels. Even then the netbook probably will not have enough processing power required for RTE2 as that is transmitted in HD.

    Thanks!

I am not an expert at all...

What do you meant by "netbook probably will not have enough processing power required for RTE2 as that is transmitted in HD".

It is a dell vostro i5-2410M 2.3GHz with Windows 7.

The only DTT you can possibly receive is the Saorview channels.

If you have the right software, and good enough signal then the dongle seems suitable.

As the PC will be doing the decoding, and Saorview uses MPEG-4 you will need to be able to deal with that. A lot of DTT was MPEG-2.

I presently receive DTT on my PC using a similar dongle (not the same).
It does need a good outside aerial though ..... if near a transmitter indoor aerial would suffice.

I think the real question is ..... can your notebook handle the video decoding for RTE2 (HD)? My older desktop couldn't ...

...if it can't, there will be non-HD-channels to watch?

The nearest mast is Bantry 22km away.

    No chance?

    Thanks,
    Nic

I misread your post. I read you had netbook not notebook. The terratec is just a tuner. The PCs cpu decodes the tv/radio stations. Alot more processing power is required for high definition channels than for standard definition. Your laptop should may able to decode the HD channel RTE2 where a netbook will not.

Yes the i5 should have no problems with the HD content of RTÉ2 ...... the other channels are in SD.
