Hi guys, was wondering what Companies/Detachments train in Renmore Barracks Galway and what are the status of each?

Coming from a Res Infantry background. Wouldn't mind trying out something a little different!

    Cheers

Not joining Engineers or LSB anyway, Medics a possibility. So's SP.

Any idea what they're like for training and tactics etc?

I was in the Renmore medics for a few years. It was grand but you're basically just doing foot drill and basic first aid. Only used weapons once (at my 2 star camp)

I've since transferred into the artillery which is pretty damn awesome.

3* here and was on PNCOs last year but the ACL injury whilst doing that cut it short.

My weapons skills are pretty high, so i guess its SP. Where's the Arty based?

NSR tactics: remove target from face of earth/sea (delete where applicable) with BIG Gun.

AR tactics: lose section to enemy sniper whilst trying to locate him/her (delete where applicable). Use 1 section to provide sustained cover and the other as manouvere by fire group to F*ck enemy up/Commit warcrimes.

Officers sheltering in deep, dark ditch trying desperately to become one with the earth at this time and Platoon Sgt brewing up and having afarting competition with Company Sgt via Singcars: All other comms totally f*cked....

If you join a SP Coy you will be doing the regular infantry stuff with the added bonus of using the 81mm mortar, .5 HMG and 84 AT.

How is galway with recruitment? Large backlog with entries for the Infantry unit?

I'll be attaching rather than joining I hope. Plus the reserves hasn't used any of those in years....

I'm in a support coy in Dublin and we have been doing the 81 and the .5 on and off for the last two years. Toet/tomd and fired and all.

In YOUR unit they may not have used them, but other units are using them and more.

With the 54th FAR, only the HQ bty and 3 gun bty are based in columb barracks mullingar the rest are in galway.

    ■No 1 Gun Battery - Tuesday @ 2000 hours, Gort, Co.Galway

    ■No 2 Gun Battery - Tuesday @ 2000 hours, Tuam, Co.Galway

as for columb barracks closing, it might and it might not, but remember that,
    A. it has a lot of accommodation.
    B. Athlone is bursting at the seams with units and equipment for them
