    Hello all,

When claming Flat Rate Expenses ( Uniform upkeep ) Do you get the full ammount back stated on the spreadsheet. For example, A bricklayer is entitled to 175 euro per year for the last 4 years. So if he applied for this, would he recieve 700 euro back from the Tax man or is this 700 euro taxed again:confused:

It's automatically incorporated into your PRSI rates or in certain industries claimed by payroll at source so you don't apply for it personally as it is alredy claimed.

It's not always included in a tax credit certificate, and I've claimed flat rate allowances for clients from time to time. They don't always get updated on certificates either.

Yes - if you have paid sufficient tax to cover the credit, and the allowance isn't in your credit certificate, you can ask for a repayment for the four years, and get it in a single payment. The repayment isn't taxable!

Thanks for the info. I applied for the uniform flat rate expenses which comes in at over 600 and 3 years of trade union fees which totaled 210. So I was expecting around the 800 mark but only recieved 260. I also recieved a p21 which I didnt request stating that I owe them 80 but they are not collecting at this time.?

The €175 you refer to for a bricklayer is not actual euro's in cash - it is only an allowance .
Therefore you will only receive the tax credit for this at either lower or higher rate of tax ( whichever you are on .
So €175 euro expenses is only €35 if you are on the lower tax bracket .

If you claim for previous years do they pay the amount into your account and this years off your next pay cheque?
