I didn't see any threads on this up, mods delete or merge if there if one...

This years festival looks pretty cool (8-11th September). Seems like quite a lot of events, anyone going to anything? I'll deffo try and get into the Barnardos pop up vintage store and maybe a few others if I can...

I'll definitely be trying to get to some of these events.

The Barnardos pop up shop should be good and I'd like to see the hair and make up demos out of curiosity. Looks like some of the shops will be doing special discounts too which is always good!

Sounds really great and it's great to see advertisements and a good online presence for the festival. Wonder if there will be any talks from industry experts?

Am I the only one who thinks the organisation on this event turned out awful?

Am I the only one who thinks the organisation on this event turned out awful?

Nope, it was really crap. Not just the organisation, but the entire thing. Popped into 'Fashion HQ' on Saturday afternoon for the pop-up 'vintage' shop from Barnardos- ye gads! It felt like it was basically full of the rubbish stuff they couldn't offload in any of the Barnardos shops! I tend to wear menswear style clothes and there was not one piece of menswear in the place!

I picked up the lookbook kind of thing while I was in there, and to me, it felt pretty amateurishly styled- there were a few good outfits, but the men in particular looked really bad- ties were askew in photos, tie-bars were pushing and crumpling ties, in one shot you could see the price tag string! Just not proofed properly before being shot. The hair and makeup seemed the exact same no matter what style clothes were being photographed. Again, going to the menswear shots, the guy had slicked hair that looked ok (if a bit ott) for the suiting shots, but in the more casual looks it was the exact same- looked way too severe and didn't show off the clothes to the best effect.

I know some of the smaller boutiques that had events on the Thursday night were successful, but I think it was up to the individual business owners. I'm raging I didn't get to a few of them, but I had to do some work late. Was anyone in at any of them? It's a real shame, I was looking forward to seeing what the festival had to offer.

I didn't go in for the Thurs/Fri as I assumed they'd be making the Saturday the main day as it'd be easiest for everyone to make it to. Fashion HQ? I don't think they can call an empty book shop with a Barnardos pop up shop with 2 make up stands and them two off of Off the Rails a fashion HQ. Waterstones is massive and they had so much potential to convert it into something good. Didn't even bother trying the north side shows etc since the south side was such a let down.

The festival completely backs up my theory of Ireland should never try to do anything that the American's or British are good at ie, Ads, Tv Shows, Films and 'Fashion Week'

I wasn't there but I remember going to one of those Off the Rails at the RDS type deals a few years ago and it was rubbsih! Full of stalls selling cheap make up or random things like 5 umbrellas for €20. I'd have had more fun walking down Moore street and shopping there.
