Insect Bites in Ir3eland

Was out in a grassy area recently for a few hours with shorts on. That evening I had about 8 itchy red marks on my legs. The area around them felt hot also. They remained itchy and uncomfortable for a few days. What kind of insects do this in Ireland? Any pics? thanks.
