I did my leaving this year and scored 505. I would like a job in the airport at anything, anyone know how I'd get about this.

Do you mean full-time as a career or part-time? Are you going to college in September? If so, what are you studying?

I'm currently studying at University but have little interest in my course. I've always had an interest in all things aviation. I'd really love to be part of the operations side of an airport. I've spent some time researching but can't find any concrete info on how to get into this field of work.

Do I need to go down the road of getting a degree in a particular area such as business? Or do you some people start off at the bottom and work there way up and if so where would one start?

I would really appreciate some advice on this.

Hi shelbourneTID, 505 is very good, did you check what aeronautical engineering is like this year? It may mean you are in a factory type situation after completing a uni course but you would likely be involved with planes, with a good career (travel may be required to get good jobs, although I know of aeronauticals in Bombardier in Belfast).

There's lots of careers in the airport; air traffic control, ground signal staff, handling staff such as Menzies, airline staff on the planes themselves, pilots......the list goes on, although I'm afraid I'm not much help in how to go about applying for these jobs - perhaps just ring up the companies that supply these workers to the airports, Menzies is a good start? http://www.menziesaviation.com/item/list/p/24/ref/People-Profiles

DCU has a relatively new course in Aviation. Basically it covers all aspects of the aviation industry, you can even train as a pilot. Would be definitely be a good opportunity. See Here
