August 29, Stage 10: Salamanca 40km

    Salamanca - Salamanca

The stage to make up lost time

Once a fixture around the mid-point of almost every grand tour, it now seems strange to find a long time trial in the middle of the Vuelta. At 47km, this one is long enough for any GC contendor with TT ability to reverse any losses they may have suffered so far and to gain time on the mountain goats. The route climbs from Salamanca towards the village of Morille before easing back down into Salamanca and rising at the end into the finish, splendedly set in the city’s Plaza Mayor. The westerly wind could be a key factor today before the first rest day.

Martin and Cancellara already out on course. . will be interesting to see if Martin can win again.

Looks like it. He's ahead by 1:12 at the second checkpoint.

    Ahead of Cancellara, that is.

Finished 1.27 ahead of him! very impressive time.. cant see wigo beating that

Hope not, have a massive €10 on Martin at 3.4.

Roche at 49 secs at the first checkpoint. If he was to maintain that form it would probably rate as a great TT for him.

Why is he so bad at the TT its not like he is a real light climber he is capable of going hard on his own in a stage how come he can't do it in the TT.
What's Martin like in the TT? Shame he got docked the 40 seconds earlier in the week.

To put it in perspective Dan Martin lost 1.24 at the first intermediate. Anything within 3 minutes of Tony Martin / Wiggins at the end will be a fantastic ride. Cancellara lost 1.30 mins to Martin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,081 ✭✭✭GetWithIt

    2.04 at the 2nd intermediate (30K of 47K)

This is a really good TT by Roche.

Scarponi finishes 4:30 down on Martin.

shows how big an effort dan put in yesterday... am i right in thinking he's normally a bit faster than nico?

What's the story with Eurosport, I can't find the Vuelta on the Sky Player listings, or is it only on ES HD ? they also had no highlights last night, and my recordings of highlights/live-action gets really screwed aswell, grrrrrr

Lads, if, like me, you don't have Sky, but do have an iphone, or ipad, there is an app called Films on TV, and it's free. You can get ITV4, amongst others with it.

Just downloaded it and watched the last 20 minutes of the stage on it, good quality too.

its going to be really tight on GC still. could be 5 riders within 30 seconds of each other still if my sums are right

any idea what time roche and d martin finished at and where they will be on gc after this - looks like a disaster for d martin, 6 minutes plus down, even mountain dogs like cobo and zubeldia only lost 3 minutes, in such a tight race, that is likely to be curtains for him - maybe he an look to winning the mountains jersey now and possibly another stage

roche in 17th on GC... id say he'll be pleased with that seeing as his TT is his weakness

Pah. How dare a British channel big up a British rider. You wouldn't see that happening on RTE. Because nobody in Ireland is in any way parochial.

Well RTE only gave Dan a tiny mention at the end of the nine o clock news last night.

    I'm not surprised they did.

he was interviewed on radio 1 from the team bus this evening by michael lyster and pat spillane. said he suffered with the flat roads and winds but it looking forward to mountains to come. They were in the middle of a 400km bus transfer

Ouch! So I'm guessing a top 10 for Martin is now completely out of the question?
