I would usually do this myself or use my local mechanic, but this seems like a good enough deal. It would cost me nearly €30 for the oil and filter, then there's actually finding the time to do it and dispose of the oil.

Anyone have experience with em? Which branch in Dublin would you recommend?

Just seen this deal myself. Seems too good to be true to be honest. Does anyone know what kind of Oil and filters these guys use? I would barely get the oil alone for this price, not to mind a filter and paying someone for labour. (4L of Castrol Magnatec is €35 alone, my car takes 6.5L ). Says on the website it's 10W40 in this deal, no mention of brand etc.

Heard a few bad stories about AP so I think I'll steer clear and do the work myself when I get a chance. Will probably cost me about €60 but at least I know the job is done right and I'm not getting cheap parts or oil.

I may be wrong, this could be a great deal and they are just using it to get people in so they can recommend buying more services/parts from them. If so, you could get a good deal by just turning down any additional work and paying the bare 35 quid.

My oil alone cost's me €55 and a filter is only a fiver...so €60 but I doubt they'd use the oil I use...seems alright though

Groupon takes half also, so that leaves 15+vat for AP. Good oil and a filter for that?I doubt it

In my experience it depends very much on the branch.
The lads in our local branch are all very good, and I like using them because you can book the car in for a certain time, and they will have it ready for when they said it will be ready, they keep it friendly, and they give you no shyte talk. (A revolutionary concept for Ireland). They've always used good quality parts. On the downside, I find them a bit more expensive than the independent local guys, and a bit too keen on changing stuff that could do another while. If they got the last two issues sorted, I'd use my local branch all the time.

Remember the last deal like this? The quoted price was for a 1.2 petrol or something.. Then it went up about 15 euro for every 200cc... :/

That was Atlas iirc, and they were going to use the oil that conformed to the manufacturers spec, seemed decent enough.

"Offer applies to all car makes and models.

    Oil provided is 10W40 standard."

My car doesn't take 10W40 so how can they say it applies to all car makes and models.

Girlfriend had her car in there for a clutch replacement and brake pads and discs about 2 years ago(kylemore rd).. done in a day.. Nothing wrong with the work at all..

35 is not a bad price i serviced her Yaris last week and was about 45 for the parts(incl sparks and air filter!)

they probable buy oil in large drums most garages do, so it is far cheaper, even the well known brands, they smaller the amount the more expensive it is.oil filters in large numbers work out at about a euro or two, and takes about 15 - 20 mins to do the job, Would'nt go near the place myself, but still cheaper than most could do it,

Different branches, different stories I know, but I would have nothing but good things to say about the one on Redmond Sq in Wexford. They do pretty much everything now on our cars (Mazda 3 and 6 both 05).

That's a lot for oil, and very cheap for a filter.

I'm assuming super expensive branded oil, and a no-name generic filter?

What do you know about my car and its servicing ?

How is changing one month old wiper blades and only half worn brake pads without asking proper preventative maintenance ?. Do you know what preventative maintenance means ?

No doubt the service manager took the gamble I had not bothered checked the pads myself beforehand, nor did he know I'd changed the wiper blades a month earlier. Nice handy way to sell extra parts and beef the labour bill up a bit.

I'd rather do it myself, it's too easy to bother getting someone else to do it. I'm specific about oils aswell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 624 ✭✭✭jimogr

You can change the Oil type from 10W40 with an extra charge. I've my focus booked in for tomorrow, guy on the phone said the extra will be less than 30 euro.

On the oil thing... most modern stuff is very specific about the oil it needs. Its an area that has seen huge advances over the past 20 years or so.

The effects of using the wrong oil may not be immediately obvious.

One thing to watch out for is an oil that claims to be of a certain standard, versus an oil that has been certified by the Car manufacturer as being of the relevent standard. Big difference.

I saw an advert offering BMW oil service for 60 Euros, the oil alone would cost me 100 Euros wholesale... turned out the garage was run by a bouncer who was a complete dope, he was tossed out for failing to pay his rent etc. You get the picture.

No such thing as a free lunch people.

they use mahle/knect filters which is among the best money can buy, and the oil they use is castrol. thw word is they are changing to valvoline which i think is better oil, a bit more expensive but worth it.
you can upgrade the oil in the groupon deal to fully synt at 5euro per litre.

Do they advice folk as appropriate that the 10w40 oil is not suitable for their cars?
