So, as title, does anyone know if/where it's possible to buy an Acer Revo 3610 or 3700, and have it delivered to Ireland?

eBay seems to be my only option and I am a bit eBay phobic these days.

Saveonlaptops have the eMachines ER1401 for £199.

The processor is about the same as a dual-core Atom - ie very weak. I don't know how the Nvidia 9200 compares to the Ion, but by all accounts it is enough for 1080 H.264 acceleration which is all either of them are good for anyway.

Keyboard and mouse are identical to the Acer its an Acer subbrand anyway.

    Hmm. Interesting one.
You can get one sans-mouse and keyboard on Amazon for 150 too ...

    Thanks for the pointer.

From Amazon themselves or a third party seller? A lot of the third party sellers don't deliver to Ireland unfortunately.

3rd party seller, dammit, and I got the good old "cannot ship to this address" message when I tried to checkout.

I'll just have to see if I can get one shipped to NI to a pal's address.

Go with ebuyer if you've got a UK/NI address to deliver. £129 although its a different bundle to the saveonlaptops one.

The 129 bundle would be perfect.

But it seems pretty much impossible to get eBuyer to ship to NI, if your billing address is in the RoI. I have tried asking their helpdesk but I am not hopeful.

Otherwise I will just have to see if a relative in the UK will buy it on my behalf.

    Messy.

These are very nice gizmos: surprising dabs or elara or komplett or any of those guys don't seem to be able to stock them.

I agree, they would sell like hotcakes over here if they were easily available at a good price, the old Revo thread in Bargain Alerts is one of the most viewed threads over there.

The one on ebuyer was actually cheaper a few weeks ago, I think £99 or something. Its a real shame they don't ship here any more.

    .

    I have a Revo 3610. And I bought 2 for work.

I knew I should have bought a few spares at the time ... :)

    Here's another possible option:

    http://www.buyitdirect.co.uk/eMachines_ER1401_Dual_Core_Desktop_PC_PT.NBZE2.011/version.asp

A bit more expensive, and you are paying the Windows tax (which might actually suit some people)

And those people do not a priori appear to rule out shipping to Ireland ...

I ordered a refurbished Kindle 3G from amazon (supplied by Amazon but won't ship to IRL) and a power supply (none supplied with refurbs) from a 3rd party seller. They're being shipped to my sisters neighbour who has a business in NI but handily lives in the republic. Seems Amazon are very flexible about addresses - I ordered with my credit card and gave my sister's neighbour's name and business address for shipping.

PS Got an Acer Revo 3610 ages ago from ebuyer Running xbmc on it - great little yoke.

Amazon will do that fine (because they are VAT registered and what not), but not all 3rd party sellers will/can do that, because of the VAT registration thing as I understand.

Anyway, the relatives in the UK faithfully promised to buy me one and bung it in the Royal Mail. Happy days.

XBMC is what I want it for: my existing Revo 3610/Ubuntu/XBMC is a great success. This is for a second TV.

I got myself (with some difficulty) an eMachines ER1401 (the £129 bundle), put 4GB of memory into it, took out the HDD and I'm booting it from a USB stick.

Running Ubuntu w/XBMC as the media player.

It's almost completely quiet, and it plays 1080p content from a network share perfectly.

Also, sorta kinda by accident (I was trying to make headphones + HDMI work at the same time), turns out Ubuntu/XBMC will drive both HDMI and S/PDIF outputs at the same time, which is pretty nice (so you can crank up the external audio equipment and connect it to the eMachine)

Working very nicely. In fact I might pull the HDD out of the Acer Revo I already have, to get it to run quieter/cooler now.

@Voodu Child, thanks for the tip!
