    Hello.

I have a mixer tap in the bath which a shower hose also runs off, the hot water is coming through the tap, but when you turn on the cold tap, no water comes out at all, All other taps in the house are fine.
Is it a case of a new tap needed?
Thanks in advance for any advice

shellyb73, I would turn off the water to the tap and remove the body on the cold tap. It may be that the tap washer is stuck or if there is no obvious fault turn the cold supply on a touch with the body removed to see if the water is coming through.

    shellyb73...

If you have cold water in the bathroom other than the bath.It needs a new washer or a spindle.

The best and cheapest way for you to fix it is.Turn off the cold supply (most likly in the hotpress and has a red wheel valve on a 3/4 inch pipe coming down from the attic) and drain the cold supply via taps that work .
Remove the tap head cover and screw off the tap head and then A small spanner will remove the spindle.(SENT A PHOTO OF YOUR TAP AND ILL GO THRU IT IN DETAIL)

Bring the spindle down to your plumbing store and ask them to put a washer (or fix the washer) on it for you or if it needs a new spindle (buy the same spindle of them). The cost will be between 20 cents and 5 euro approx.

Then put the spindle back on. Then the tap head and cover. Then turn back on the water. JOB DONE AND YOUR CV CAN BE UPDATED.

Is the tap head stiff? If it is the spindle might have come away from the actuator. You can try removing the spindle body, the part that has the washer on it can come away from the twisty part (for want of a better word), If you look up inside the "twisty part" there should be a hexagonal shape, the nut at the end of the spindle retracts up into this when you twist open the tap normally allowing the washer to move up and let water out. This has misaligned. If you twist back on the washer part onto the spindle anti clockwise and line them up, next the part the head sits on can now be twisted open (as if you are opening the tap, remember to hold onto the washer part) it will pull the spindle back up properly. next put the spindle body back into the tap and tighten. Then close the tap and turn your water back on and try it.

Remember to take your time when doing it.
