rotten plum tree..

Hi, we have a large plum tree in the garden, the trunk is rotten, all soft and crumbly, is it safe to eat the fruit from this tree?, the plums look OK but I am not sure about eating any with the state of the tree. the main trunk

The rotting trunk will have no affect on the quality of the fruit.
