Remote Desktop

I use windows RDP to connect one Win 7 machine to another Win 7 machine.

This works fine over the LAN and allows me configure and operate the connected machine up to a point.

If I want to configure / run anything with graphics / directX (Media Portal, XBMC) , sometimes I get launch errors or crashes because the Remote Session is using an "abstract" graphics adapter, much like a virtual machine would use.

Is there any remote desktop software which doesn't active a remote session (i.e. logging the user out of the remote machine) but runs the machine normally, but allows me to control the mouse, keyboard and view the screen over the LAN?

Teamviewer might be worth a try, free to non commercial users

+ 1 for Teamviewer, you can setup a partner list and log in anytime you wish, ie from another PC or smart phone and so on .

    Thanks, works as expected.

And it's intelligent enough to use just the LAN instead of connecting to some web service.

Just wondering, how does Teamviewer compare to the Windows inbuilt remote desktop client?

I have never had the chance to use the Windows version and it would be very useful to me if it was good, so how would ye that have used both compare them?

Which would you prefer to use?
