    Hi,

I recently purchased the iomega screen play director to play my hd movies and I updated the firmware..

Im having a very big problem and would really love to find a solution: some files wont play and give me (bad container)

Whats driving me crazy is that ive downloaded a whole file (planet earth 720p) the machine played the first 8 episodes normally and wouldnt play 9 10 11 showing me this message (bad container) knowing that all 11 were downloaded similarly in ONE file!!!

Try remuxing the ones that don't work.

    Use MKVMergeGUI (download MKVToolnix).

Just drag the video into the input window, choose your output location and click 'start muxing'.

What container are they anyway? MKV?

Do they play on your computer okay?

Can you see any difference between the ones that do play and the ones that don't? (size, container, resolution etc)

Do you have a link to your model of media player and its specs (what it can play)?

    yes they are mkv

its planet earth.. as u know its 11 episodes.. iomega played the first 8 normal then the last 3 gave me this message.. on VLC they all play normal... are u sure these isnt anything i should modify in the options while remuxing?

Download mediainfo link and then paste the full media info for a file that will play, and then a file that wont. It will look like this

I'll see if I can spot any differences between the ones that will and wont play.

I dont know if this would be helpful to u i didnt know how to get the info exactly like u showed me...

I think I see the problem, the one that doesnt play is muxed using header stripping (compression). Very few hardware devices support MKVs muxed with header compression.

So remux it again, but this time go to the 'extra options' of both the video and audio stream and make sure that there is no Compression selected.

I have one of these (Screenplay Director HD Media Player) which we use at work to play advertising. I find it a disaster, I had to convert all of the videos to DiVX as nothing else would play properly on it, either it wouldn't play at all or there is no sound on it.

Recently I updated the advertising on it, plugged it back into the tv, set it to repeat and after about 20mins the screen goes back to the menu listing all the ads that are on it while the videos continue to play in the background. When I hit the video button on the remote (the green one) it shows the video for about 5seconds then goes back to the menu

I am not very technical but I really need to sort this problem asap as I am constantly going to the tv and setting it back to the start to get the videos running until 20 minutes later and have to do it again

Does anyone know why this is happening or how I can solve it?

    Thanks in advance
