Just my opinion but i'd rather buy a well spec'd MK5 GTI i.e DSG,leather.Xenons etc than pay that kind of money for a more door mk6 with cloth seats and a manual box.

are manuals not much cheaper to maintain too?

Lovely car but you'd get some serious 07-08 motors for 25k!

Xenons.. meh. Leather.. not fussed. But I agree on DSG.. I'd want that!

Had an Audi TT DSG as a rental from LHR last year (lucky upgrade)... brilliant, flippin' brilliant.

Not liking the burberry seats :D

toying with changing from a manual 07 TT

    reasons for changing

    - it is a second car but five doors and room in back more practical with kids so can do collections etc. without having to think ahead and borrow wife's car

don't see any point in changing unless i go up the years and get something newer - think i will get more value on a change that way

like the look of the citroen ds4 - 200hp but figure the residuals on that means i would be better off burning my cash

suggested alternatives to a gti welcome - had a mkv before and as a car it ticks a lot of boxes at that price (practical, room, fast enough for me, dare i say "cool" factor (holds its own in traffic, parked beside more expensive cars) understated)

Basic Question, I just bought a new Mk6 GTi (4 door manual) and picking it up tomorrow. I read the Top Gear magazine Review last night and it mentioned that the Mk6 had Adaptive chassis and also a limited slip differential.

When i test drove the car last Wednesday, the only button I had below the ash tray area was the tire pressure indicator, the other 3 buttons were blocked out. Does this mean that the Adaptive Chassis is not on this model?

Also I guess the slip diff is always on and cannot be interfered with ?

I was going to suggest the Giulietta Cloverleaf, but there are non for sale in Ireland.

There were at least 3 demo's registered by Alfa Ireland so they must either still be in use, or sold off by now.

It's something you may have considered OP but you could get a slightly older S3 ('08) for that money, if a little cheaper.

It's where my money would be going if I was in your position (and I have a MK5 GTI right now).

That S3 is gorgeous. The colour of the seats ruin it for me though!

Couldn't entertain spending €4000, not to mind €25,000 to sit in those manky retro fabric seats tbh.

The adaptive chassis is optional, costs in the region of €800 extra! ESP (braking) is standard, and that's the button in front of the gear stick. The tyre pressure monitor button is in the glove box (at least that's how it is on my GTD).

I haven't seen a MKVI in person, but I thought the MKV fabric seats looked really really well in person, but were shocking in photos!

Yes - something I have thought about - although not essential, five/four doors with kids is easier -that is a drawback for the older S3s.

I would be spending 10k to come up a year to another 3 door car so hard to justify

lovely car though - was a white one I saw earlier in year in Wicklow I think - looks great

    +1
The chequred seats never photographed well and always looked great in the flesh once there taken care of.

Just reading through this, and I noticed that the car has an electronic sound generator as standard. I don't think I could live with that.

Don't worry about. It will probably be broken on delivery.

My initial reaction too. It's an electronic device that plays the kind of 'engine note' sounds into the cabin that VW think you want to hear.

I think that sound generator thingy is in my GTD. I say "think" cos I wouldn't know from driving the car whether it's there or not. So I find it pretty easy to live with :pac:

How do you find the GTD
Did you test drive the GTI to compare?

    nahhh
VW has developed what it calls a ‘sound generator’, which is a device situated on the engine side of the bulkhead that receives signals from the engine management system to produce an ‘authentic’ sound track during spirited driving

Very happy with it. I have it about 3 months now. I had a MKV GTI for 4 years before this, but I never got a chance to drive a MKVI.

Plus points (over the MKV GTI):
    - economy! (750-900kms per tank as opposed to 500-550 kms)
    - €156 road tax
    - much much better quality interior, fit and finish is superb.
    - a lot more standard equipment than when I bought the MKV (e.g. cruise control, multi-func wheel, armrest were all costly options in the GTI at the time)
    - the sound generator :pac:

    - I'm very happy with the performance. Obviously it isn't quite as rev-happy as the petrol GTI (although it is very good I think) and it feels a little less nimble in the corners, but I'm very happy with it overall.
