as amazing as red arrows, yellow arrows, headless cats and rompant dogs are, it'd be a shame to see it go unnoticed that green dragon has being reassembled and getting wet over the past few days and due to be skipping town shortly, worth a look....

pic from the lets do it galway facebook....

Not really. I think the boat was behind the curve last time and the regs have moved on since.

We'll have an "Irish" entry but it amounts to putting an Irish lad as the media crew member on a Chinese entry, which would be the inverse of how the boat was crewed last time.

An Failte Ireland paying a shed-load of money so there can be an "Irish interest" in the VOR

They blew the budget on that bullsh1t flying garden for Cork. Time will tell was it money well spent or would it have been better invested in the Ocean Race.

Whats the story with the green dragon now?
Who owns it? what does out be used for?

    eagle10,

While the Green Dragon is obviously not taking part in the VOR this time around, it's being used to promote Ireland and in particular the end of the race in Galway next year. It's being sailed to a number of events, including a motor show in Germany, the start of the race in Alicante, and the European stopovers, including Lisbon in Portugal and I think Lorient in France.

It will be back on public display in Galway next June, for the end of the race.

Failte Ireland did give about 4 million to the green dragon.
The fact that the boat will not be competing is mainly down to a failure on the owners behalf to raise or invest sufficient funds to be able to compete.
As for "bull**** gardens" I'm sure Failte Ireland has to spread its available funds around the country and not just in Galway.

We will see what the visitor numbers are to the mardyke for that overpriced piece of crap in a few years.

New health and safety legislation means people can't even go up into the "hanging" garden now and It also can't be lifted in winds of more than 25 kmh

What exactly would you like to see then, the state to pay for the event conpletely?
As it is the government paid a lot of money to get the event here in the first place whilst local businesses which will do well out of it cannot chip in a few quid to put a boat in the water.
As spectacular a success as the last race was how much of that was down to the June bank holiday being one if the warmest spells of the year?
How many would stand on the prom to watch boats race if the weather is crap which is not uncommon.
The state made a massive contribution to the next race coming to Galway and it should now be up to the local community to do the rest.
