Luas ticket from green to red line.

    Hi all,

    I want to make a once off return journey from Cherrywood on the green line to Museum on the red line. What kind of ticket or tickets do i need to buy?

    The fare calculator on the luas website says I can buy one return ticket from Cherrywood to Museum for 4.70 but that doesn't make sense as it cost 5.00 just to get to Stephens Green let alone take another tram out to Museum.

    I'm not sure about the individual prices, but I'm pretty sure you can buy a ticket between lines - I often got a Connolly - Green 3 ticket.

    You'll have to walk the 15 minutes between Stephen's Green and Jervis though!

    I just tried that on their site. It says a return ticket from Connolly to green 3 would be 4.00. But from Stephens green to Green 3 would be 4.30. Still semms pretty odd.

    That would suggest that if you wanted to go from green 3 to Stephens green you could save youself 30 cent by buying a ticket to connolly instead and just not going all the way there.

    Cherrywood to Museum one way is coming up as 1.50 for me. Seems to be something of a fcuk-up.

    I don't think this fare calculator knows what to do if you pick a start and end point on different lines.

    OP, a 145 bus goes from close enough to Cherrywood (N11) via the quays to Heuston Station; this is pretty much as good as the Luas but with no change involved.

    A nice option alright, but it still highlights "the gap" that exists on the luas.

    What a shame.

    Or perhaps highlights the benefits of the redesigned bus network that is appearing under Network Direct?

    I just rang Luas customer service and she said the the pricing is correct. So if I leave Cherrywood and head into town it is 4.70 all the way to Charlemont then it goes up to 5.00 until I get to Stephens green, then it drops back down to 4.70 if I continue on to Heuston, then it goes back up to 5.00 to get all the way out to Saggart. Doesn't make any sense to me at all but I think I'll try buying a ticket at the machine and see what happens.

    There is a direct bus for €2.30 each way. Why not take that?

    Or €1.90 each way if you buy a 10 journey ticket that has a validity of roughly 18 months.

    Them oul Travel90's still put it up to every other option cost wise.

    However,since the OP is making only a once-off journey it also highlights a totally inexcusable gap in the DB Ticketing array.....A Two-Journey Smart Card.

    I may also be wrong,but I detect a certain sense of LUAS or nothing in this thread.
    It may be a case which highlights a certain lack of Marketing in respect to "Improved" route options such as the 145 now represents (better late than never ).

    Given that the 145 journey will always be quicker for that sector and that it will be substantially cheaper,I wonder why it's not figuring as an option ? ;)

    Sounds like the 145 bus is the best option after all. It saves me the walk across the city centre. I reckon I will take it. I also need to take a once off trip out to Heuston station next month and it will take there also.

    Well there you have 4 out of 10 potential journeys that would make getting a Travel 90 ticket worthwhile. If you're likely to do 3 more return trips over 18 months (even just into town) you would save over EUR 4.

    You can get it from any DB ticket agent for EUR 19.

    Nothing secret about them - they've been advertised on the sides of buses in the past and are clearly listed on the DB website - it's just people don't bother looking!

    This thread kinda highlights the need for DublinBus to get it's back-of-house stuff upgraded to keep pace with the rate of change Network Direct is bringing onstream.

    With the initial codology and poor management of Phase 1,now being repaired,we are witnessing some evidence that there is a positive element appearing on the Bus horizon.

    Some form of Image Enhancement akin to but not identical the CitySwift,CityIMP ethos is I believe required to get the Bus option back into peoples minds.

    I mentioned back at the inception of the Network Direct thread,that the collateral damage inflicted by DB's woeful Phase 1 handling was going to impact on a far wider scale and I believe this to be the current situation.

    Sadly for a great many people the old Margaret Thatcher adage about "Failures and Buses" still carries some sway.

    Alex, it probably makes sense to wait until Network Direct completes before you start trumpeting and marketing it.

    Perhaps in conjunction with renumbering of the bus routes.

    Perhaps,bk,but that traditional "fán go bhfeicmíd" element has,to a great extent,been short-circuited by the degree of collapse in our business.

    This cataclysmic and rapid event demands some form of immediacy of response.

    I would agree that not all of the ND'd routes are candidates for it but some thought needs to be given to perhaps a pilot programme on some of the better functioning ones.
