I know there is going to be some smartarse who will point out that there is no such thing so I'll save ye the trouble.

I looked at a 00 one of these that is supposed to be a 115bhp model for a mate of mine. I lifted the cover on the engine and there was no injector pump on it and the cover clipped down instead of being held down with M6 nuts..

    Is this right?

I thought they were just a tuned up version of the 90bhp version with a rotary type injector pump and that the PD engine did not come out until 02?

    Thanks..

Check the data sticker in the boot, the engine power will be listed on this in kw. Convert the kw power to bhp and you will know for sure what it is.

    That sticker was gone.

I checked. It had a 6speed box, I just want to know if it had the right engine.

Both of those are fine and well but nether will prove if it is the right lump for the car..

I didn't have a chance to look at the engine numbers as it was raining. It hasn't been bought yet, so if my mate does decide he wants it I could do that on my return

Did it get rear end damage, sticker should be there unless it was painted.

Yeah it did. Rear RHS quarter still isn't right but the guy who I was looking at it for didn't seem to bothered about it

Sounds like a ball, but some people can't be told. I would walk away.

115bhp are PD engines also, the first to appear in the MK4.

There should be another data sticker on the inside cover of the service book/manual.

I would be inclined to agree with Neil though, there is plenty of choice out there in mk4 TDI golfs no need to buy a suspect or crashed repaired one.

Thanks for that. All I can do is advise!

What year did the pd engines first come out with 6spd box?

In my experience, family and friends will always do exactly the opposite of what you advise them anyway.

Im pretty sure these came out in '00, I've a couple on the books but theyre 01's.
From memory the engine code is AJM and they are the pd 115.
The code will be on the top tbelt cover with the 6 digit engine number, the engine code may also be on the vin sticker.
Also that 6 speed box would not be positive point.
