Buying Used Passat TSI (08-10)?

    Hi guys

    I am looking at used Passat TSI (08-10).

    Question -
    Compared to TDI, is it much difficult to re-sell a TSI car after a couple of years?

    It seems everyone goes to 08- TDI these days. I just got used to patrol cars (low noise etc) and don't drive too much, so prefer TSI.

    Any advice is highly appreciated.

    Any petrol car these days is harder to sell than an equivilant diesel model. On the plus side they are also cheaper to buy. ;) If you are not doing big mileage then there is no point in paying a premium for the diesel model. For example I'd rather pay €10k for a nice 1.4 TSi Highline Passat than the same money for a 1.9 TDi Baseline or Comfortline.

    If you are buying a 1.4 TSi then a 08 is probably the best year to go for as it would have been taxed on the old tax system which was cheaper than the newer Co2 tax system.

    Really? I have a 08 TSI Golf and it was originally taxed pre July but changed to the CO2 system come the first renewal because it was cheaper.

    The Golf is alot lighter than the Passat which effects Co2 figures. Passat 1.4 was in Tax Band D (€447) on the Co2 system as opposed to €334 on the old system.

    The 1.4 TSi engine is turbo charged and has 122bhp. Will not win any races but doesn't feel lacking in the Passat.

    Ah, I see. Well, turbo is always good, they should have done that when the tax system was purely cc based, strap 4 turbos onto a one liter car and you get 200 bhp for pittance tax wise.

    Noooo more Glanzas!! :D But on a serious note thats what drove the development of high revving low cc engines in Japan, they had woeful tax on large engines as far as i know

    While the Irish went another route, just buy the biggest car with the smallest engine and to hell with the fact it would take three weeks to get from 0-60.:)
