Issues with Audi A5 iPhone 4 cradle.

Bought this cradle today (p/n 8T0051435F). Had checked the manufacturer spec, have the right phone prep in my A5 (PT5), fitted it today, and .. no joy. Its supposed to just slot in, and away you go. Some tell tale signs I know somethings wrong are:
    • When I press TEL button to setup, a screen comes up saying "Telephone not available"
    • There's no audible "beep" when I pop the iPhone in
    • The iPhone doesn't charge
    • When I search for Audi MMI bluetooth, nothing found

So, Im at my wits end. The guys in the Audi garage suggested that I book it in for a diagnostics check, but I want to rule out the possibility that I've done something glaringly wrong before I fork out a fortune on a quick fix.

Anyone any ideas? Also, has anyone ever had just a "software upgrade" for their MMI? How much does this cost?

Im not familiar with the specific phone setup you have but a few things to check

I know you have phone prep but the fuse (it could be marked aux, audio, phone, cell etc.... ) could have been left out.

the phone prep is there but is it enabled on the head unit , not sure if it has to be done by a dealer or not

do you know anyone with an iphone 2g or an ipod classic , plug either of those in to check, if they will take power from the cradle theres a way around it.

the phone function is handled by bluetooth, not the cradle so youll have to pair the phone first for that

Did you try pairing the phone in the first couple of minutes after turning the car on? The Audi system is only visible to your phone for a few minutes then goes hidden.

    Ask on an audi forum

It might need telephone turned on via vehicle diagnostics at your stealer(dealer)
