Just wondering if anyone could offer advice for what to start with for fifth years? Also if anyone had a very general outline for what is covered in each year for Maths that would be amazing, junior or senior cycle. I'm starting from scratch and feeling very overwhelmed. I'll have a few chats with teachers I'm taking over from but if anyone could offer any advice in the meantime I'd really really appreciate it!

Hi mona, the following is the running order my Maths department worked from last year (don't have this year's done yet). It went ok apart from not getting Complex numbers done because of time missed and Project Maths taking waay longer than expected. This year's fifth year will be doing strands 1,2,3, and 4 from Project maths, so the timing on these could be off because they're based on the old course. Before you decide on this, look in your staffroom or ask Maths Dept head for the subject folders containing the schemes of work. If your Maths dept already has schemes of their own, you need to follow theirs and not your own.

    Fifth Year Ordinary Level:
    Algebra (3 weeks)
    Statistics (4 weeks)
    Co-ordinate Geometry - Line (6 weeks)
    Area and Volume (4 weeks)
Algebra (4 weeks) (quadratic and cubic equations)
    Complex Numbers (4 - 5 weeks)
    Arithmetic (4 weeks)

    Hi slickmcvic,

I've tried searching for that sample scheme - you don't happen to have a link do you? Or the original email?

Real pain not being able to plan properly. Syllabus only came out last week and knowing the timing is very difficult.

In reality project maths has been more like chaos maths.
