I have a Diploma in IT, I got a while ago.
I left college for personal reasons, but now want to go back and complete my degree.
I'm not sure about the progression routes in.
Or should I complete a short course before I go back, I've forgotten most of what I learned.

It sounds like your diploma is a Level 7 qualification, which is now called an Ordinary Level degree.

You should be able to do a Level 8 qualification, which is an Honours Degree and should only take you one year, or two years part-time.
