Just said it there on Racing Uk:( A real pity the Arc loses a lot of its appeal now

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,285 ✭✭✭Oscars Well.

Would have been great to see him in the Arc :(. The way he won the Derby was unreal, its a real pity that he has to be retired through injury after only three races :(.

What a pity, I was looking forward to seeing him demolishing the Arc field. It throws the Arc wide open, hope Coolmore send So You Think to replace him . Doubt they were ready to stand another son of Monjeu even if he is a Derby winner. Any thoughts on his future career?

I can't see them not sending a derby winner to stud tryfix

He will be going alright, it's just the other two Epsom Derby winners by Monjeu haven't set the world on fire. How does his Dam side stack up for a potential sire . Coolmore have done very well with their Derby winners. I suppose Hurricane Run is doing OK as a sire as well.

I've been looking that up and can't find too much information on her. She's by Darshaan is she. Hurricane Run is alright, like Montjeu his need time I think

Investec Derby winner Pour Moi has been retired to stud by connections.

A statement from owners Coolmore Stud read: "Epsom Derby winner Pour Moi (Montjeu), suffered a severe overreach to his near fore fetlock during exercise at Chantilly on Friday morning. He will not race again and will retire to Coolmore for the 2012 breeding season."

    From the Coolmore website:
    Pour Moi
    (27th August 2011)
Pour Moi (3c Montjeu-Gwynn, by Darshaan), brilliant winner of this year's G1 Epsom Derby, has sadly been retired after being injured in training.

The Montjeu colt, who was trained by Andre Fabre for Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, suffered a severe overreach to his near fore fetlock during exercise at Chantilly on Friday morning.

He will not race again and will retire to Coolmore for the 2012 breeding season.

Pour Moi, who was successful at Longchamp as a two-year-old, also won this season's G2 Prix Greffulhe at Saint-Cloud.

Went to Gowran ,won a few bob 6/1.This a very serious horse for next year over a distance, maybe ledger horse .Im told he is top top class and would have beaten Learn in Leopardstown.Watch Wimpole Street the only problem is that he is small but very very good, sprinter??Ballydoyle have a super unraced 2yr old filly will run shortly if ground is good or they will wait till next year. She is as big as any colt they have.

    Interesting.

Real shame he is out, bet365 have gone 9/2 on Workforce, So You Think, Sarafina & Nathaniel - I hate when they do that.

Looking forward to the Arc and then the jumps :)

So You Think for me but I'd rather a nice each way. Wouldn't write off St Nic just yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,702 ✭✭✭tryfix

Can't have Workforce myself, some real superstars have tried to do the double and he was hardly that impressive last year with his 3yo allowance. He is unbeatable on his day, but logic says he won't do it twice. So You Think would be my choice if he ran. Anyone up to speed on the Japanese challenge this year.

There is definitely more to St Nick than the King George run, a true run race like the Arc would suit him. His win at Chester was just awesome. Might be next years Ascot Gold Cup winner if F+G retires and he can't hack it in the top 12f races. St Nick has a similar profile to Yeats, and F+G would have a lucrative career as a NH stallion.

Can he run if he's going to Australia for the Cox Plate?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Not sure. Think horses have to be in quarantine for 2 weeks in Australia. He'd really run in one or the other.

Think there's about a week or two between Cox Plate and Arc...
I cant see why they want to take him back for the Cox Plate again.. Unless they are planning a real International end to his season - Cox Plate, McKinnon stakes, Japan Cup and Hong Kong Cup....

Personally I think he should go to the Arc, then Breeders Cup Classic.. The horse is a monster who is used to a tough racing programme.

Monster is correct but I think he is not that good.He is the biggest horse I have ever seen against a pony [Snow Fairy] and struggled. I dont like him.Maybe he will get an injury ,maybe im nasty.

I think his runs have been too far apart, he's used to racing at the top level every 2 weeks over a prep of 6-7 races. Snow Fairy had her chance yesterday but couldnt find enough..
    Yes u are nasty ;)

Big smell of Duke Of Marmalade off So You Think :P

Finding nice, easy G1's to run in and sometimes win, he'll be found out in The Arc!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Think that's a bit harsh against the Duke. They didn't pick out weak gr,1's,everyone knows where they were going, they scared off the competition

There was no opposition to scare off. I mean the 2 best horses he beat were Finsceal Beo (finished after her Guineas exploits and didn't stay 10f) and New Approach (first run back after injury). Don't get me wrong he had a great constitution to win 5 G1's in a row but he beat nothing and was well and truly put in his place in The Arc and BC Classic. He was all out to beat Papal Bull in the King George.

A good horse but nothing more

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

I dunno. Phoenix Tower had a soft spot in me. The Arc can be the downfall for many great horses, and how many top horses go to America and don't perform at the BC

Just came across Gagnoa , a 3/4 sister of Pour Moi who finished second to Zarkava in the Gp 1 Prix Diane, when I was looking through Sadlers Wells records . Maybe Pour Moi is out of a potential blue hen, always a good asset for a potential sire.

Pour Moi has a 2yo half sister by Galileo called Kissed trained by A O Brien which has yet to run.

Gagnoa was a top filly.I remember Moonstone was my biggest bet ever at the time in the Irish Oaks and she was a real worry for me

There is a good pedigree assessment of Pour Moi on this link.

I knew Id read about that filly before. She's one of the most expensive Galileo fillies ever

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 60 ✭✭Montjeu

That was impressive, into the tracker.

Cheers for the heads up Nulty, had a small nibble at 9/4 half an hour ago which now seems massive.

What price is she available at for the Oaks. I wouldn't worry if she wasn't up to winning on her debut, she will still shorten up for Epsom if she makes a half decent debut.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

She won today tryfix well backed 11/8. First and second were 7 lengths clear,20/1 for the oaks.

I should have looked at the date on the entries, it said tomorrows cards, silly me:o. Nice debut, definitely one for the Oaks shortlist.

Full sister to Kissed, 3 parts sister to Pour Moi made 800k today

Coolmore didn't buy it surprisingly enough

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

    From the RP:
Pour Moi relative goes to Makin for 800,000gns

THE first day of Tattersalls Book 1 saw a three-parts sister to Derby hero Pour Moi go to Paul Makin for 800,000gns, the highest price of the sale so far.

John Magnier was underbidder on thefilly, whose full-sister Kissed was a timely debut winner at Navan earlier in the day.

Earlier, a flashy chestnut sister to Galileo's first Classic winner, 2006 Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Nightime, was purchased for the Niarchos family after falling to Alan Cooper for 700,000gns.

The Qatari-based Umm Qarn Farm was also early to strike, outbidding the Coolmore team at 260,000gns for a Galileo filly from Highclere Stud.

She is the first foal out of Highclere-homebred Candy Mountain, a winning Selkirk mare from the family of Green Dancer and Makfi.

The first purchase of the sale for John Ferguson was a 170,000gns Oasis Dream half-brother to Golden Jubilee Stakes winner Cape Of Good Hope. The colt is also a half-brother to recent four-length debut winner Nephrite.
