Hi, my girlfriend has her own car and is insured third party with full clean licence. I'm insured through work to drive a company van, full clean licence too but can I drive her car without having to go down as a named driver on her policy.

    Thanks.

Commercial insurance policies may not cover you to drive another vehicle that is insured privately and vice versa. The only ones who can accurately answer this question are your respective insurance companies.

Thanks all, were both signing up with 123.ie for the car, got a good quote from them but one thing I found strange was that I asked them could I fax him a copy of our licences along with the NCB cert and he said no need that they take your word on the licence end, thought it was common practice to take a photocopy of it?

I never had to send in my license.. Of course if you ever try to cliam they will want to see your granny's baptism cert or something similar! ;)

You would wonder how they are going to manage this new penalty points system where they can see a licence with points etc and then adjust your insurance when they dont have your licence details.....

Did they ask you for your licence number? Once they have that they can check to see if you have points or not.

Only Aviva can do that. No one else has access to the records.

Not yet anyway, just got the quote online yesterday and will be going with them soon so maybe they will then. We both have clean licences so no worries for us............
