If you want to take it on board the cabin that would most likely require a ticket.

I once carried a guitar on board (in the overhead) on a flight from Kuwait to Dublin via Frankfurt with Lufthansa. There was some pleading at the checkin to allow me carry it on but once the checkin agent agreed there was no great problem from then on.
I suspect it depends on who you get at the checkin, how they are feeling about their work, and how full the flight is.

One point to note is that the airport staff at Ben Gurion airport tend not to have a sense of humour. They take their job, procedures and security very seriously. If you are in a position of having to depend on their goodwill you are probably out of luck.

    thanks for that mate.
I going to live over there, so I wouldn't be taking it back the ways.
The security is very high, should i say extremely high.

    Thanks for reply

I have seen many a guitar in the aircraft cabin. They fit in the overhead lockers, i did once see a cello checked into a seat, as it is way too big for the lockers.
