you can insure the car as either a classic or your everyday car, depending on the Insurance Company. To get Classic Insurance you generally need a main car already insured. (there is no loophole to cheap insurance in other words.

Your car will never be NCT exempt.

    Never say never.

Would anybody be in favour of circulating a petition to reinstate the rolling 30 year exemption - or even reducing it to every two years again?

no chance, all that would do would be throw the spotlight on the concessions we already enjoy (some of us anyway)

I disagree, but unfortunately I suspect that you are not the only one with such an inert attitude.

There's a difference between being inert and smart.

30 yr plus cars still get very valuable concessions, so I wouldn't be shouting from the rooftops lest somebody decides to do the same with tax and VRT as they did with the NCT. The country is bankrupt and everything is fair game for taking a hit.

as they did with the NCT.

I've not looked at this closely, but was this just a State decision or would it have had more to do with EU directive compliance?

I like the NCT,A road worthy inspection for €50 is good value IMO:)

It all depends. Have a look at the insurance thread link in the sticky on top of this forum :)

Ring around all the insurers and come back here with an update.

I had my daily driver classic car insured on a classic policy. But the policy was in my wife's name and I was the named driver. At the time my wife was a learner driver and my car was a 4.7l V8 Porsche :D

This construction was suggested to me by my insurance company, I would never have thought of proposing this to them...
