Gas is cheaper per KWH. Use your summer vavle and heat the water with your gas boiler.

Marcanthony, can you elaborate more on the summer valve?
Is there typically a valve that shuts off the CH circuits but not the cylinder loop feed?

    Hi Air,
manual use: These valves are usually above the boiler or in the hotpress. They can be either gate or lever vales. You turn them to the right to turn the heating off and they will just heat the water.

Mechanical use: If it is is motorised vale. You should have a wall stat for your heating and a cylinder stat on your DHW cylinder. If you turn the wall stat to off and make sure your stat on the DHW cylinder is on.This will allow the hot water to heat and vice versa.

There is a few other ways for these to operate. However this would be most popular.

The above options are only available for those who have a 4 pipe system or (3) a common return. If your system is not designed for a summer valve. If you have Termostats (TRV) on the radiators. You can turn off all the TRV's to just heat the DHW cylinder. This can also be done by turning the valves on the radiators off. (even if they are not TRV,s). However they are not designed to be turned on and off on a regular basis and they will leak. (usually on the packing nut). the same said for the summer valve if it is a manual gate valve.
