Woke this morning at 6.15 and looked out at a lovely morning,
with herself and my son still asleep got a notion to go and play a few holes!
played 9 holes and was back home before they had woken, never done that before and felt great after doing it,
Thinking to myself now if i could squeeze in a few holes every morning before work.just sorry i didnt think of it a few months ago as the mornings will be getting darker.
Not sure if i'm mad or just a golf addict?
Anyone else on here do anything similar?

just back from a round. i would rarely be on the course after 8am when i am on my holdiays. far more enjoyable and you can take your time. I also tend to find I shoot a better score as I do not have to wait around on people. Could defo not do it before work though and no time in the evenings so golf will not be too frequent now until mid - term!

To be honest i feel wrecked right now:p
but still looking forward to doing it again, the funny thing was, there was a triathlon on back there this morning and the hardy bucks that they are were already out swimming in the lake when i arrived at 6.40, maybe thats why i'm feeling tired:rolleyes:

Love early morning rounds. I usually would not play before 8.00 but I love playing in the mornings when it is quiet.

Something more enjoyable about it when not many (if any) people are around and you can go at your own pace.

Like poster said I tend to play better when it is quieter as your not waiting on somebody and can enjoy it little bit more.

To me playing behind a fourball that is as slow as snail is as bad as watching paint dry.

Yeah - my Sunday round requires me to be up and at 'em about 40 minutes earlier than my normal rising time on workdays.

Love being out at that time, as the later groups take an extra 30-40 minutes to complete the rounds.

I am fairly regularly out at the weekends first on the timesheet at 7am. No nicer way of spending a summer's morning. However myself and my mate have noticed two drawbacks of playing at this time of the morning.

    1. You really need to be up early to get at least 20-30 mins practice and warm up. We both notice that even then it takes 5 or 6 holes to get swinging properly and consequently the scores on the early holes are not what they might be.

    2. The first group sets the pace of play so you are constantly looking behind you to make sure that you are not holding up the group behind. The result then is that you tend to rush your shots so that the whole timesheet is not held up. This wouldn't be such a problem in quieter places but our club is always really busy on weekend mornings.

That said though its the only way to play regular golf if you have young kids!

Read an article before somewhere (will try and find a link tomorrow) that playing early in the morning will hurt your score as the body/mind is not awake properly. It obviously explained it in a more scientific manner.. ;) It went on to talk about Olympic athletes adjusting their body clocks so they trained in their peak times (I think their was two times one a few hours after you wake and another in the evening, second wind type of thing) and also how they tried to match their peak times to anticipated event times. As I remember it was a very noticeable difference in performance between the times.

That said their is nothing like a golf course early in the morning, and if it's the only chance you can get to play.! i'd play golf in the dark if I had too .. :p

Funny you should mention that. Have dropped 3 shots off the handicap since I got married. Less time out on the beer/pull equals more time to play golf in the mornings!

My favourite time to play also. Nothing like it to set you up for the day. It allows me to get out more often as well. Herself never worries about me playing when I'm coming in the door as she's getting up. The mornings are closing in tho, so we won't get many more weeks out of it

Love it soundsham, love it.....!:D Who doesn't love to get some holes in before breakfast?

There's nothing like being out on the course before everyone else. Unfortunately, getting up and out early can sometimes wake the household which means I'm not always Mister Popular when I get back...!

Teed off at 7am on Sunday. Great craic, there seems to be a real bunch of regulars out at that time. Lots of banter and good humour. Must have rubbed off on me because I played quite well
