Replacing a MacBook charger

Does anyone know if I can get a MacBook Pro charger replaced in an Apple Authorized Reseller for a MacBook Pro that was bought from the Apple Online Store, or would I have to contact Apple directly? My charger appears to have kicked the bucket since the LED isn't lighting up and the battery indicator doesn't show that it's charging (I'm not sure whether it is the charger or battery at fault, but I would've expected a battery fault to make its presence known during use) and it'd be so much more convenient just to go into CompuB tomorrow and get it sorted than waiting until Monday for a delivery to be dispatched. I assume that the power adapter for MacBooks would also come under the warranty for the MacBook itself? My MBP is under warranty since I bought it about 3 weeks ago.

I've read through the support article for troubleshooting MagSafe adapters and apart from one section (using the alternative plug instead of the power cord), everything appears to be in order.

EDIT: Also, if I can get the charger replaced in CompuB, would I need to bring in the MBP as well or would it be OK to just bring the charger? I haven't had a chance to buy a suitable backpack/case for it yet so I'd rather not have to walk around the city centre without having it concealed fairly well.

i'd an issue with an iPod touch nearly a year ago that i had bought from Apple Online store and the
folks in CompuB in cork dealt with it as if they had sold it.
(not the same thing i know, but its all Apple:))

So, unless something had changed since, you should have no problems with getting a replacement from CompuB,

having said that i left my old black MacBook sleep for about 2 weeks when i got my iMac before,
and when i went to turn it on the battery was wrecked,,, i'd to buy a replacement.
Hopefully tho, thats not your case as everything is covered by warranty (lucky bastard,,, grumble grumble:D)

    re: the edit:
that now i cant be sure about,,,
take the MacPro serial number with you and chance it?

They do. And Apple have been known to replace them even outside of warranty.

I'm not sure. To get it replaced under warranty, possibly. At the very least you would need your Macbook's serial number. Maybe ring them beforehand and ask. Might be a good idea to bring the MBP in just to make sure it is the charger. Although it sounds like it is.

Apple will ship one out to you if the machine is under warranty.

Not without you giving them yours back first they won't

As it turns out, the charger appears to be working after all. I tested it in my own room (different socket to previously) with the alternative plug (which worked), then with the power cord (which also works). I just tested it on the original socket I was using with the power cord, and it worked just fine... I'm still somewhat confused as to why those particular sockets wouldn't have been working since they had been fine just a few hours beforehand.

So, all is well it seems (thankfully, since today isn't an option to pay a visit to CompuB after all :P) - sorry if I inconvenienced any of you with this.

Actually, they ship out one via UPS and the UPS man collects the faulty one on delivery.

Try bringing it to an Apple service provider. As I said above, they may replace it free of charge even though it's out of warranty.

Thanks. They'd be CompuB / PC World?

I'd be careful of that. I have a sneaking suspicion that the reason I have gone through 4 chargers in 4 years is due to changing voltage in differing sockets and houses. From experience my charger always tends to break when I am at my parents house but will work again perfectly once I go back to my own house afterwards.
Also the light not coming on is usually the first sign that their is something wrong with the charger and it is near the end of its life. I always start looking for a new charger on ebay the second I see the problem just so I don't get stuck without a charger as has happened before

Well, I haven't had any trouble since then - the socket I used when the problem occured seems to be working just fine now (along with the one beside it). My father thinks something could've tripped the cut-off switch without me realising. At this point in time, I don't want to fret over it - if a problem does arise again, I should be able to get it sorted with minimum downtime.

Id look on adverts for a seller called DEEIRL, I got a spare magsafe from him earlier in the year. He usually is able to source them a bit cheaper than Apple and they are 100% genuine.

Failing that I have one here that I was gonna sell but havent got around to doing so yet. It came with my new macbook pro a few months ago but has only been used a handfull of times as I already had 2 other magsafes. Looking for 60 notes. PM me if interested.
