Back for a new series next Friday on BBC1..

.. this is a show that a lot of people (including myself at one stage) so quickly dismiss as unfunny and full of irritating kids.

But it's a cracking little comedy.. and 10 year old Ramona Marquez has finer comedic ability than most comedic actors 3 - 4 times her age.

    Looking forward to this!

If you told me I had to choose one English show between the Inbetweeners and Outnumbered, I'd pick Outnumbered every single time.

I like Season 4! I'm hoping the kids getting older won't take the cuteness factor out of it.

I like Season 4 too but I haven't warmed too much to Jake this season. I think Ben's gotten alot better, but always Karen steals the show :p

Could kind of see it coming with Jake but I think the moody teenager role is a bit tired out as it's in every other show.
Ben and Karen do make the show!

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I only got into Outnumbered lately as its being repeated on Gold. And I'm loving it !

While watching it the other night with my girlfriend, she made the point that a lot of it is ad-libbed. She's seen most of it before on the BBC when it was first aired.

Anyone know if she's right about it being only loosly scripted ?

Yes she is right. It's amazing when you realise that Karen is only about six in the first series.
The writers use improvisation in order to achieve convincing performances from the child actors. Dennis commented: "In most sitcoms all the lines for children are written by adults. So they are speaking the words of people 30 years older. And you really want kids to have their own voices, and say their own things." Jenkin added: "You rarely get the feeling that children in sitcoms are real. They tend to be the same type of character – the smartarse who says adult things – and they are rooted to the spot, staring at the camera, because they've been told to stand in one place and say the lines. We decided to attempt to do something that hadn't been tried before, bounced some ideas around and we got very keen on this idea of involving improvisation very quickly."

Apparently a pilot for an American version has been made but not broadcast yet.

Cheers Brian. Those child actors are indeed truely talented !

You learn something new every day.

I learnt never to doubt my girlfriend again.:o
Especially when it comes to sitcoms.:)
