hey everybody, i think I may have an unusual case so if anyone can give any advice that would be great... ok here goes... I studied architecture in Belfast for 3 years graduating in 2006 with a BA(Hons) in architecture. (which I believe is a Level 8 qualification) I was 21 when i graduated. This entitled me to exemption from Part 1 RIBA exams. For the most part in the UK, as far as I know, architecture courses are spilt into 3 year bachelor (part 1), 2 year master (part 2) and 1 year supervised work (part 3) Now, 5 years later at 26 i have decided and got accepted to complete my next two years at UL. However at UL the course is a full 5 year BArch in Architecture course with no split for bachelor/master's degrees, so therefore i would be entering 4th year... After 5th year I will (hopefully) receive the BArch in Architecture which is also Level 8. So here is my difficulty. I have been on jobseekers allowance/benefit for the last 10 months. I applied for the BTEA but was refused on 2 grounds; -You are not commencing the first year of a course of study -You already hold a qualification at an equivalent or higher level. I have applied for the Grant (fees and maintenance) as my fees are E7, 270 and there would be no way I could put myself through college. I have been reading up a lot and the grant application seems to be pointing in the same direction as the BTEA. i.e. refusal. I need to register next week and am really unsure of what I can do... As i am living at home i have applied as a dependent. I am just wondering if anyone else has found themselves in this situation? or if anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it

what qualification will you have if you do year 4 and 5?
if the qual is a level 8 one then as you hold a level 8 qual already you wont be grant aided.

if the qual is higher than level 8 you can apply for grant assistance.

    After years 4 & 5 I will have a Level 8 degree.

They're weird like that, your best option is to go to UCD because it's a 3 + 2, or Cork, whehre it's a 4 + 1, though you would get no assistance for year 4. DIT is bringing in the 3 + 2 but it's not available for 4th years yet. Ul have started back already though so i presume you've made your decision at this stage.
