Renting a Bike in Dublin?

I don't have a bike of my own but I hear it's the best way to get around, what's my best/cheapest option?

Can I rent for the year or do I have to pay weekly?

Also, the options i've researched only seem to have stations in the city centre, so I would have to walk for most of my journey anyway - anybody know of any bike hire places where there are stations near Rathmines/Dartry (halls)?

Just buy a bike, it will be cheaper than hiring. The DublinBikes scheme in the city centre is really handy, but it doesn't have any stands near Trinity Hall.

Dublin bikes is a tenner for the year. The nearest station is portobello, about 20 mins walk away. It's probably more worth your while just buying a bike. check any of the classifieds sites (adverts.ie ) and you'll get one for ~100 quid

You could check out Rothar as well, they refurbish old bikes.

But make sure to get a good lock (or two)!

No need. Buy a clanger of a bike, and you don't even need a cheap lock!

    EDIT:
Should point out, I'm joking here. Bikes tend to go missing in dublin, and even if it's locked, anything that's not glued to it will go missing... I still remember getting stopped by a gard at half ten one night, for not having lights because they were nicked earlier that day...

I'm quite conservative in this - even with a crappy bike I'd use the best lock I have because I wouldn't want to lose a bike!

True, I was joking but that wasn't too obvious. Amended my post to point this out
