Argos misprint?

I got an Argos flyer yesterday and it has a Toshiba c660 on it for €439.99. It says it has 6gb ram and 640gb sata! I looked online but the website says that it has 4gb. Still a decent deal but is there any way I can get them to upgrade my purchase to something of "similar or better quality"? I checked the fine print on the catologue and it says "on the rare occasion that there is an error in our publications, we will do our best to inform you at the earliest oppurtunity when you order" But it also says "sometimes we may experience problems with the supply of certain productsand may therefore provide a substitute of the same or better quality at the same price..." Whatya think?

I was in the massive Tesco in Naas earlier this week and saw the same 6GB-equipped Toshiba C660D for around the same price.

The D would indicate to me that its 6GB,not 4.

Looks like the 6GB model is €499. But I wouldn't bother with the extra RAM to be honest. RAM isn't everything.

For example, the graphics card is built in so you wouldn't be doing any serious gaming on it. Here is a good review of the graphics card.

tl;dr? basically it says that it could be compared to an entry level GFX card and plays older games quite well.

It's not graphics I'm after. It's RAM. The more the better! I am going to be using the laptop for sound mastering. I was using a HP DV6000 with 4gb RAM and it was decent but lagged a bit. I borrowed a friends VAIO with 6gb for a while and pretty much the exact same spec as the Toshiba described and the difference was huge. Fingers crossed it's the 6gb and not the four.

2 gb will cost you feck all to stick in after the event in any case. But look for the 6 with your flyer in hand;)

2 GB might not cost much but chances are you will have to dump the 2*2GB sticks and replace it with 2*3GB sticks on a laptop. Thats when the cost mount up.

you won't get feck all out of argos over a mis-print (if it is one).

i went into the one in dun leary years ago for a ps2 and they actually had it in the laminated catalogue inserts in the store at the UK price, just with the € instead of £ symbol.

when i went to buy it, they went to charge me the full irish price, at which point i complained that it was the wrong price and eventually a manager came out and told me they didn't have to sell it to me at the advertised price if they didn't want to and whilst i was arguing with her, they sent someone round to rip out the inserts in every single one of the laminated store catalogues, at which point she more or less just said sorry with a shrug and walked back out the back and left me standing there.

of course, if they haven't spotted a mis-price themselves and it's in their system at that price then its fair game and good luck to you. :D

They are not wrong in fairness.

yep, i know that now, but i didn't at the time and i figured it was worth a shot either way. :)

something along the lines of they offer something at a price, but until you hand money to them and they agree to take it, it's not a done deal and they can refuse to sell it at any point up to then.

i'm sure there's a better way of explaining it though.

The op is lacking information to be able to determine whether or not it's a good deal.

    A note on RAM though;
Having that extra RAM would be completely useless for 90% of users as it would never be used. :/

For most people, anyone using windows 7 or xp 3GB of RAM is more than they'll ever need.

The fella saying how the Vaio was so much faster with the extra RAM, the RAM probably wasn't what made the difference in speed, unless you were doing some video editing or running some VM's or some other RAM intensive program.

If you're just going to be using the web, watching movies and web browsing then you need not spend more than €400 on your pc as you won't see much of an increase in speed or even reliability as long as you buy smart :)

    Also to put this "deal" in perspective;
    https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/ASUS_K52F-EX426V_1008169.html
Around €350 delivered with more than adequate specification :)

The OP IS doing something RAM intensive though.

The work I am going to be doing actually is very RAM intensive. Digitally mastering music for production requires alot of RAM and also a good processor. The VAIO is using the same processor as the Toshiba described in the catologue at the same Ghz. €439 is an incredibly good price for a laptop with these specs albeit the graphics chip isn't as good as the Vaio. It's also a decent price if it "only" has 4gb. Just wondering if I can squeeze the better model out of them if push comes to shove. :P

Ah so he is, anyone else however looking for a laptop who doesn't require the extra ram to run a specific program should take note :)
Without the full specs, it's hard to tell what kind of deal this is.

Generally Argos wouldn't be the place for a bargain laptop unless it was old stock & RAM is very cheap right now.

Could you divulge what processor it is by any chance? It's quite likely that the price at Argos could be beaten very easily. Would be great if you had the full product/manufacturers number too

Argos won't give you anything. I've bought several items from them which ended up falling very short of the descriptions. I complained but but just a reply pretty much stating that these things just happen.

Don't buy a laptop for just high RAM. Prices have been very low on RAM lately. Look - 8GB from memoryc for just under €40. Delivered.
I would be much more concerned about processing capabilities and the graphics card as well as screen and general features when buying a laptop at the moment.

OP: What is the full model number of the laptop? I'm asking as there seems to be a cashback scheme from Toshiba for some of their C660 models bought before the end of August.

I got an email today from dabs.ie (how good or bad are they these days?) offering a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-1T1 Core i3-380M 6GB 500GB 15.6" for €450.99 ex vat with with €110 back from Toshiba.

So adding delivery of €6.23 (!) and the VAT and taking away the €110, I make it a total of €443.24 delivered. But note that you have to apply for the cashback between 30 and 60 days after the purchase. Odd.

Edit: That was with dabs4work.ie. Ordering through dabs.ie shows the same price and free delivery - but you might want to check with dabs if the cashback is available going that way in case it's a business cashback deal.

I got the toshiba earlier in the year and the catalogue said there was a 170€ casback making it 425.
when i got onto argos about claiming it was told it didnt apply to ireland.
after contacting consumer affairs assoc i complained about false advertising.
argos sent me a cheque admiting they were wrong. the note it didnt apply here was on the till after i bought it. :-)

legally they are noy obliged to sell at a price but once they have they are bound by law.

Just bought that laptop that you have link to in PC world in blanchardstown for €419 but it has an Intel Core i3 CPU m380@2.53Ghz which I'd imagine is much more efficient than the dual core on laptop on link. Pretty good spec for that sort of money from a bricks and mortar purchase imo.

Personally I would stretch to an i3 if I could.
