Hi, I'm starting arts in September and thinking strongly of doing history. I've been taking a peek at the timetable and history only seems to have 3 lectures per week coming up. Could this be right or am I missing something? Also has anyone done Greek and roman civilisation along with history and if so howdid you find it? Many thanks for any help.

I can only give you advice on History I'm afraid. Looking at the timetable now you are correct, three lectures per week but there will also be a tutorial you will sign up for on the first week. HY111 and HY118 are the first semester modules and HY112 and HY119 are the second semester modules. I loved History and would strongly advise it if you're interested in it!:)

Thanks for that reply KingKazama. I have wanted to do History and English all along. Will definitely go with the history but not sure about English at the moment. I'm lucky in that I have credits and only have to do 2 subjects in first year, but that means I need to get choices right! Thanks again

    History through film?!
Why didn't they have that when I was in first year?!
Though I'd still rather 16th Century to the Vikings!

It looks like they seem to have mixed up the timetable a bit!

I thought the same thing, although I would have preferred Vikings to 16th century Ireland. :P

No problem at all! Glad to help! I did English too and enjoyed it, although not as much as I did with History. A lot of work involved in it. I think they have changed the course around a bit in recent years. Unlike History, after first year you don't have a choice with modules so you only do compulsory modules. Hope this helps!:)

Thanks for all the info. I'm a mature student and have never studied history before so not sure what topics I'd prefer but I'll soon find out:). Regarding tutorials are you given a time and expected to be there or is there usually choice of slots?

You will! I ended up with a completely different idea of my interests in history after 1st year!

There is a choice of slots but it can be quite a race to sign up for them so get in as early as possible!

Definitely get there early! The past two years I ended up being one of the last people to sign up. All that was left was Fridays at 9am and Thursdays at 5:P
