Hi, just wondering if anybody could clarify my payslip

I started a new job recently..

I started on 08/08/11 and got paid on 20/08/11

Just wondering if anybody could clarify my deductions??

    Salary €1931.03
    PAYE €248.21
    PRSI €55.20
    USC €78.38
    Nett Pay €1549.24

So my total deductions are €381.79...

Does this seem right? - Am I paying the correct amount/rate of tax??

    Thanks for any insight!

Without knowing the ins & outs of your details in relation to tax credits, etc.; my advice would be to email your local revenue office with your query.

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/contact/index.html

I would email them and leave a contact telephone number. I have found that they will get back to you in a couple of days and will explain the deductions over the phone. If you do not hear from them after a week, resend the email.

I have found the staff to be extremely helpful anytime I have had a question. Always ask if they could summarise via email because you will have a contact for any other questions you have.

    Hope this helps.

Not being smart or anything but this isn't really something for Revenue to be dealing with - it's the employer who's operating the deductions on the OP, they're the ones who should be most readily able to explain the calculation.

I'm not saying the OP can't do what you've suggested, but with a query like that surely the logical thing is to just confirm the story with the employer...

The amount of tax you pay monthly will depend on what your circumstances / earnings have been for the first 7 months of this year .

PRSI deduction also depend on circumstances , ie medical card holder or not .

You start a new job on 8th August - this is the procedure :

    1. Give your new employer a copy of your most recent P45 / tax credit certificate .

    2. Give your new employer a copy of your medical card ( if you have a current one )

    3. Apply to your local tax office for a tax credit certificate using Form 12a available at www.revenue.ie

    Thanks for all the replies.

Reason I ask is because I have been out of employment since 2009.

I went aborad for a year and then studied for another year upon my return.

I'm not too up-to-speed on my taxes and tax-credits and so on, so just wanted to know if my taxes seemed ok!
