I ported over from Vodafone earlier on today - went into Three shop, got new sim and got ported over about 2 hours ago to the Three network. I have full signal for calls and texts, but no sign of my 3G internet working on the phone (HTC wildfire S). Wi-fi works fine but cant connect thru 3G.

In the pack i got, it says to clock on the phones 3G and they will send me a text with the new settings. I could be missing some new setting on my phone, that was set up with vodafone but dont know waht to do.
    Any ideas??

Oh, by the way, i have already registered my details on My3

In help or faq on three you can get the settings resent by text to your phone. Just save them when you get them

Take sim card out and put it back in.

Did you a new phone or bring you old vodafone one over? If you didn't get a new phone, then your phone is one of the phones that 3 can't guarantee internet will work. For example the Nokia C3-01 will work on 3g on vodafone but when its unlocked and has 3 sim in it, the internet serves will not work.

Well just got off the phone with a rep from 1913 and basically told me to reset the phone settings to see if this helps. May give it a try now and see.

Done this numerous times. Guy in Three store put my sim into a Three phone and the 3G worked perfect on it. He's sending my info through someone (Irish) at Three to try get it sorted by monday.

    It's really annoying me now,

    DATA ROAMING: Off
ACCESS POINT NAMES: The 3Ireland settings
    NETWORK MODE: GSM/ WCDMA auto
    NETWORK OPERATOR: 3
ENABLE ALWAYS ON MOBILE DATA: On

    MOBILE NETWORK: On

    Anything I'm missing??

    Tried it.....no luck

I'm just totally baffled now!! I even tried to send the settings from the Three website but there's nothing about internet, it only says something about having problems recieving and sending SMS

I don't think you can receive the settings via SMS for Android.

Anyway, to be sure to be sure:
Delete all and any APN settings you currently have in your phone - start from stretch basically.

Then, create a new APN - this will be internet. I've bolded the entries you will need to change yourself:
    Name: 3 INTERNET
    APN: 3ireland.ie
    Proxy: <not set>
    Port: <not set>
    Username: <not set>
    Password: <not set>
    Server: <not set>
    MMSC: <not set>
    MMS proxy: <not set>
    MMS port: <not set>
    MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
    MCC: 272
    MNC: 05
    APN type: default

Save that APN and then from the main APN screen, you should see a radio button to the right of the profile you've just created - tap it to activate the APN.

Next, create a second APN - this is for MMS.
Again, fields to edit are in bold:
    Name: 3MMS
    APN: 3ireland.ie
    Proxy: <not set>
    Port: <not set>
    Username: <not set>
    Password: <not set>
    Server: <not set>
    MMSC: http://mms.um.3ireland.ie:10021/mmsc
    MMS Proxy: mms.3ireland.ie
    MMS Port: 8799
    MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
    MCC: 272
    MNC: 05
    APN Type: mms

    Save that APN.

Double check the radio button next to "3 INTERNET" is selected then reboot the phone. Hopefully your internet will now work!

    That's odd.

What happens when you do try to connect to the internet?
Do you have a "G", "E", "3G" or "H" icon up in the notification bar?

Nothing at all comes up. Just gave the 4 signal bars. When I turn on vie internet nothin comes up. Where as wit Vodafone, these used to be a G wit an up and down arrow beside it

Are you sure you have Three 3g reception? It has nothing to do with Vodafone 3G. You say you had Vodafone 3g that's irrelevant.

There is full 3G reception where I am, and full 2G coverage as well, so even at that, it should still fall back onto the Vodafone 2G service when 3G is not available.

If there's nothing, then there is no data connection established.
If your SIM worked with a data connection in another phone, then this would suggest your account is OK and the SIM is OK and the problem would then lie with the phone, in all likelihood something missed in the configuration.

What do you see in the APN menu? Are the two APN's you created there?
Does one of them have a circle to the right of it? Is this circle green?

Yeah it worked perfect on another three handset. When I go to the APN settings, there is 2, as set up from above post. One for internet, one for mms. the internet one has the circle to the right and is checked green.

Just a quick update, I finally managed to get the latest HTC software onto my phone, and now the 3G is working perfectly.

The settings for the APN that were automatically set up on the phone after the update are:
    Name: 3
    APN: 3ireland.ie

    Proxy: <not set>
    Port: <not set>
    Username: <not set>
    Password: <not set>

    MMS proxy: <not set>
    MMS port: <not set>
    MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
    MCC: 272
    MNC: 05
    APN type: *
