Hi all, hope im in the correct area for this post.

Here goes at the moment I rely on the public health system and thank God my health has been good but now as I approach my 40's, scary thought, anyway, what are are the main benefits in getting private health insurance instead of public service, many thanks in advance to all who reply.

Ok, my case. Healthy as a trout until I was 34.
    Suddenly:
I had to get urgent MRIs, paid for by VHI, got my choice of times and within a week. Would have cost €2,-3,000 and a long wait (more than 6 weeks)
Colonoscopy within a week, again at a time of my choosing.

I now need a drug once a month that costs €2,500 and must be given as a day patient -again completely covered. I know of a girl trying to get in publicly and no go so far.
I had an operation earlier this year, was in a public ward with 15 others a shared toilet, incredibly noisy all night, one nurse at night .

A private room became available. Air-con, ensuite, one of those remote control beds, own telly. The difference between steerage and 1st class!!Two nurses between 8 of us.
