So what is the situation here. I am going to be a first year student in NUIG and I am about to register online. However, I haven't heard back anything from the county council in regards to my grant. Should I just go ahead and register, and select pay fee's later or whats the story.

    Any advice would be handy.

What I had to do in first year was pay the registration fee up front because your council will look at first year applications last (always the way) then when the college receive your fees they will refund you (providing you are awarded a grant)

    Hope this helps :)

Hey :) yeah I was wondering that too :/
If you expect to receive the grant, do you inform NUIG that you'll be expecting the money to be refunded? Or do you just go ahead and pay it?:/
Also, when is the closing date for the registration fees, i hear 31st October, but that does seem quite late!

For first year, i paid the full fees and when the college knew i got the grant (can't remember had i to provide a grant acceptance letter to them), they'll refund the student contribution charge (€2000 this year, i think). you'll get it back in the second semester sometime i think.

for subsequent years, they'll only charge you the student levy of ~€220, you don't need to go through the whole process of weaselling money back from the college again.

When you register on ssr.nuigalway.ie and you reach the page with 6 questions, if you've applied for a grant, answer yes to the last question. Your fees payable will be the €224 student levy. On the next page, choose the grant authority you've applied with and then pay the fees. When you receive a letter of acceptance from the grant authority saying you've been issued the grant, you'll need to show this to the fees office in Galway by the 31st of October.

That's what they said when I rang up anyways. :D
