New car shipping/delivery query

Sorry about this folks (I know there's a back story & a whinge in here but bear with me, there are questions at the end!) but I’m hoping someone might be able to help me out.

I order a new car earlier in the year (I know recession, frivolity and all.. ridicule away!!) and was told it'd take 16 weeks to arrive. I wasn't overly impressed but figured if that's how long it takes it's how long it takes. So I order it & about a week later I was given a scheduled production date (the last week in July) and a delivery week for the car. The delivery date seemed a bit early and given where the car is built it seemed a bit close to the production date but even adding the "extra" that probably need to be added it would still easily come within the 16 week time frame.

Anyway everything, as far as I was concerned, was going ok. I was getting the odd e-mail saying how the production was going etc. and three weeks ago I got an e-mail say it'd been shipped, so I though happy days I’ll get it in the next few weeks, unfortunately a week later I got a call to say the car had only shipped the previous day and I’d have to wait at least a month for it to arrive. Anyway I was less than impressed with this partially because this kicked it to at least a 17 week wait (from when i ordered it) but probably more because I had been told the previous week it was on its way.

Anyway I did a bit of research and found out that the ship my car should be on is due into Germany on Tuesday. Now my questions are, how exactly will my car get from Germany to here, will it come directly here or will it go to the UK first? How long is it likely to take to get here? I mean this in terms of both transit time and turn around time at the docks.

I know these are relatively specialised questions so I’ll understand if no one knows but in that case do you think it's worth my while contact the garage to see if they can get any more information for me or will they be as in the dark as me.

Sorry about the really long post (and if you've made it this far thanks for reading!) but any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated (I'm getting cheesed off waiting at this stage!!)

    Thanks

Ask the person you bought the car from - they should be familiar with how the system works.

With all of the details you supplied you left out the most important one - make and model!

The car is being shipped to Germany, then shipped on from there? That sounds a bit strange.....

If you give us a manufacturer, I should be able to shed some light on the process.

Thanks ROR, i assume this is because its come from Mexico and Germany is there centralised European distribution point.

That sounds right so with the Jetta - it's (hopefully) sitting next to the 4 I ordered on the 9th May!

Didn't realise they went via Germany to join the rest, but if it's carrying the LHD one's it makes sense. Shame they couldn't stop off on the way past.

The boat should be going in to Emden and hopefully they can unload the Jetta's and stick them straight on the boat to Ireland. I have my 4 scheduled for around the 5th September, but that is a rough date.

It only takes 3 days for the ship from Emden to Ireland, then it depends on where it docks. Some go to Cork, some go to Dublin, then the cars are sent to either Inch or Kill and distributed to the dealers from there. This takes anything from 3-14 days depending on where your car is on the boat, and how bothered NVD are.

Hopefully yours is slightly more interesting than the 1.6Tdi Trendline's with Bluetooth that our customer has patiently been waiting 5 months for.

Thanks ROR. Ship seems to be docking in Bremerhaven though so probaly transferred by rail then to go to Emden and with a bit of luck it won't be hanging around either place too long!

Unfortunatley no more exciting then the ones you're waiting on but hopefully it'll be like the pint of Carlsberg all the same!!

    Thanks again

But will still be a rarity on Irish roads due to VW's very strange approach of launching a car when there is no stock available.

I have seen one on the road since launch.

A fair point but small saloons aren't all that popular full stop. How many Focus or Astra saloons do you see relative to the there hatchback counterparts? But that said there is still a demand for them and unfortnately this demand was under appreciated by VW and as a result there're a lot (not a massive amount mind but enough) people waiting for them.

As a bit of an FYI for anyone waiting on their Jetta there's a ship on its way from Emden at the moment (unfortunately mine definitely won't be on it) and it's due in Dublin on Saturday so hopefully you won't have too much longer to wait!

I reckon the tide will change seeing that the Focus saloon is far superior to the older model.

We have had lunatic customers up all night waiting/watching for the boat to come in and dock so they could watch it arrive into Dublin port when their car has been on board.

Yeah ! the person from you bought the car and who hired a Car Shipping company car guide you in the proper way and i would like to say that Car Shipping is very sensitive case. You must hire an insured Auto Transport Shipping Company.

 wow, thanks for generously sharing the details of a reputable shipping company. You must really be a satisfied customer to join purely to post two bull**** posts and the website details of a completely unrelated company to yourself. Does your sister also want to buy a crazy dress? Can we have the link to see for ourselves?
