Technically you are not licensed until you receive your full license and have it in your hands. A certificate of competency is not a full license, so technically L plates and accompanied driver is still required.

That being said, I'd be thinking you'd have to meet a gard in a very foul humour to actually fine you for driving.

And congratulations on passing the test:D

Do not. Throw them in the bin.

My brother's full licence took nearly a month to arrive after he applied for it - that's in Dundalk, had his test mid-July!

Inform your insurance company that you've passed - they may give you a small amount of money back. They'll probably want to take a photocopy of your full licence once it arrives!

yeah, i spoke with a garda down at the station, he said it is fine to remove L plates etc and drive provided i carry my Certificate of Competency with me while Motor Tax office processes my application for a Full Drivers License.

Sentient 6, can you please clarify your comment?

I think the MTO takes the Certificate of Competency off you - but they'll give you a receipt which will state full licence application which is effectively the same thing!

Just that there was no need to go into the gards imo.

They just handed me the receipt when I was getting mine, right there and then in the motor tax office. Keep that (and the photocopy of the CoC) in your glove compartment, and I doubt you'll have any difficulties!

    Congrats on passing, btw!
