hey guys and gals just wondering if Johns lane(beside masons) is a safe area?? im guessing there are drunks as the casino and lots of bars around but would it be safe for a girl to walk on her own at night for example??? is there break ins around the area???

Used to live up the hill from it, at night I'd recommend going around it and up the car park/Geoffs side. Few dodgy looking people hanging around there at night once in a while.

NO, small, quiet alleyways or streets are never safe no matter where you are.

Myself and my two housemates were walking home one night through John's Lane, and whoever was living in the top floor of the apartments started chucking glass bottles at us.

That'll tell ya what walking through John's Lane is like at night, whether you're alone or in a group.

I often park the car there when going out, never had a problem, although did see three p1ssed lads trying to get the Guards to give them a lift home one night. Was funny and went grand with my Taco chip sitting in the car with the lads.

I used to walk down there anytime of the night and even tell people to park but one night (although fairly early) myself and Mrs Ziedth saw a guy kicking the absolute shíte out of his I assume girlfriend. That kinda did it for me. I'd still walk through it during pub opentimes mind you.

Its very well lit and I have walked up there at around 10.30 10.45 and its been fine, not much later though so I don't know what it would be like late.

Friends of mine live in Stephen Street just up the hill from John's Lane and their house was broken into in the early evening a couple of months ago, but I haven't heard anything about break ins in John's Lane per se. I've heard regular enough stories from student friends of mine living in the flats there and they have had some problems. Also the son of a woman I work with was jumped about a year ago up there.

I'm not trying to scaremonger, but there would be safer areas than John's Lane. I mean there's not trouble the whole time there, but there would be now and again.

Not so sure tbh but I know I left the casino one night after winning and the manager ordered me a taxi. He told me its safer as people have been jumped in the past leaving the casino...

Yep, dodgy area. Some pack of scum bags living in one of the houses there. They have been known to start on people walking past, physically. I'd avoid it if possible.

that is complete and utter bollox. as im the door man their since the place opened and their was never a person jumped outside our door. as if their was we would be the first guys in their to help and stop it. so please stop talking s*it.
also yes it is a rought place but since the casino opened we have stepped out on the road a number of times and helped people that got into hassle. and if the op is to live in johns lane i would say live over the casino as the doors in the houses futher down the lane does often get kicked in.

I lived in that area last year and never had any problems, but regardless of where you're living I wouldn't recommend walking home alone at night.

yea im moving into the apartments there overhead. i kinda felt more assured because the casino was there. not just because of the security lads on the door but the fact the security camera aswell would deter people from breaking in. i guess the place would be kinda dodge since theer are so many bars in the area and it is afterall down a back street but i lived in worse places:D

my only real concern was that a girl i know is moving in too and id be just concerend about her walking around there. guess ill just have to take drinking up as a national sport and head out with her any time she is heading out:cool:

but also thanks for the reassurance. that does make my feel alot better

Tbh, I'd say those apartments are so close to the clubs that it'd be pretty hard to get into any trouble walking down from there without anyone noticing. I doubt you have anything to worry about really. Hope you like the new place :)

Used to park me bike down the back of the beefy when I went out. Once the back wheel was punctured but other than that the bike was grand.
Some chaps tried to hop on me brother down there but it ended up ok.
Was waking down there one night and seen female cream cracker.having a piss beside a car. Couldn't help but look while I was walking passed her. Was cool until she opened her mouth :(

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the guards. They often get these guys into court and it's the judge that gives them a slap on the wrist and send them on their way.

The justice system in this country is a shambles.

    True true.
If I was a cop I'd be a right narky bollox. Must be extremely annoying bringing them to court and fook all happening then

If I was a cop, I would last about a day because the damage I would do to these violent *** would get me the sack and jail time.
yes its true but ive often seen these young guys pointed out by people they have beaten up. and i still have to see them getting approached by the guards after or arrested for it.

Fair enough, but the guards may follow up later on.

    Everybody is just talking nonsense!!!

Yeah, ok u can get a dodgy few poeple up that area late at night, but its the same all over the town! Im sure if u did a survey about it, there would be more violence outside one of the chippers than there is down the alleys!

If anything, the lane is a lot safer since the casino opened because it lights up the place and theres always some standin on the door, theres numerous garda cameras around the area too.

I live in the houses on johns lane almost 2 years now and there hasnt been much trouble, yeah youd get the odd fight up there every now and then, but its the same everywhere at that hour of the night.

The lane is grand, down worry about it!!!

We're not talking nonsense though. Someone asked about that place specifically and not for us to do a survey. You have been living there two years, things did happen down there before you lived there in fairness.

Yes things do happen all over the town. we are not slagging where you live at all chap so just relax the cacks.

hahaha I remember one night there about 3-4 years ago I think, probably less but anyways. I was sessioning all night and all night and was on the way home. Was late/early enough and I seen a chinese girl walking down crescent drive in hillview. she was on her own so I just said to her, sorry you shouldnt be walking around at this time on your on, Ill walk you to the end of the street, just watching out for her like, well I never seen someone run so quick. I know I scared the bejesus outta her but I didnt mean to. I thought she might know english but she didnt seem to. :( that was the end of my superhero career.

It's not bull, its just our opinion and mainly our experiences being down there at night.

I've had bottles chucked at me and one guy ask me did I have any hash I would swap for drink vouchers he found, but on the other side I also scared the **** out of a girl one night. I walked past her in my hoody while holding a bag of Hillbilly's and I swear she flinched when she saw me and walked in the other direction.

That being said, it should be a lot safer with the casino there now.

The lane is grand for the most part, there are a group of younger travellers that hang around the area at the weekends late, robbing drunks etc.. but thats about it. Never had any problem in the area myself and I would walk through it on a daily/nightly basis, besides the 3 idiots who live on the top floor of the apartment building, they wont be there much longer however
