Hey, I heard on the radio that Apple are launching an iphone4 with only 8GB at a cheaper price. Can anyone tell me the storage capacity with 8GB? ie roughly how many songs , photos, videos etc??

    Many tks in advance :)

It depends on the file size. You would probably fit at least 1500 songs on there anyway. Video takes up a lot more space. One downloaded iTunes film might be 1.5-2GB in size. Add it up.

Don't forget that each App takes up space too.

iOS also takes up space. Looking at my 16 GB, the capacity indicates 14 GB available for storage. I'd consider myself a light user of my phone and I only have 4.4 GB free. As mentioned above apps can take up quite a lot of space.

Apple won't release any more iDevices until iOS 5 is released and even at that the iPhone 5 should be out so I doubt they will release a iPhone 4 8GB

They released an 8GB 3GS (which they are still selling) after the iPhone 4 came out, so actually it's quite likely that they will.

The iPhone 3GS 8GB was first released on June 19 2009 along with the 16gb and 32gb black and white models for the 16 and 32 but not the 8GB!

No. Only the 16GB and 32GB 3GS came out in June 2009. The 8GB 3GS came out the following year alongside the iPhone 4.

It's likely that Apple will do something similar again. Unless they decide to offer a cheaper iPhone 5, but I think that's unlikely.

imo they will move up again

i'd say 16gb iphone4 will stay where the 8gb 3gs is now, and the iphone 5 or whatever will be 32gb or 64gb.

That'd leave the 4 as a very attractive proposition and could potentially cannibalise sales of the 5. The rumours of introducing a machine with cheaper components e.g. Plastic back instead of glass, cheaper screen possibly from the ipod touch and 8gb of storage would make a lot of sense.

They haven't even confirmed that they are releasing an iPhone5

They could easily release an iPhone4S in september/october along with an 4gb model to replace the 8gb 3GS

The 3GS was named that to catch up on the numbering system (IIRC) so it's unlikely there'll be another "S" version imo

Pretty much, the iPhone 2 called the iPhone 3G (due to 3G data)
So they wanted to keep the 3 number for the third generation.
The name has nothing to do with my pointing any. The fact that they prob releasing an iphone 5 won't stop them introducing a 8gb model. And could easily be a 4 model, to separate the cheap one from the new one.

Honestly, I think they'll call it 5 no matter what the changes are, they'll want to push iOS5 and everything that goes with it. But I doubt the 4 is being discontinued
