    Hi Folks,

I never did one, but just somthing that I always wondered.

In a case of Run -> Bike -> Run, Do people wear the same runners on the bike section as they do when running??
    Probably a stupid question.

    Thanks.

    Some people do, some don't.

I am very nearly committed to doing one of these things myself in a couple of weeks now, I've just got to confirm that I can get a lend of a bike of someone yet. *

I've got clippy in pedals and shoes for the bike so depending on the bike I can get hold of I'll be making use of them. But how do you actually deal with the changing your shoes in a speedy manner. It will be a 10k-40k-2k legs apparently, but I can see the second transition taking me longer to do than the last 2k run. I'm never rushed to put my racing runners on previously and always tend to faff about a bit with adjusting them.
There has to be a quick'ish method of getting them on and off though, the bike shoes being Velcro can be done speedily, but laces are a different matter.

    * It's complicated but my bike is not my bike so I have to give my bike to the someone else who will be taking part as well and I have to find another bike to use as my bike for the duathlon.

    Get lock laces.

Alternatively just wear runners on the bike. Depending on your level you could lose more time in transition fumbling around with shoes than you'll gain by being clipped in to the bike.

Any running shop should have them. Just pull the laces together when you put the shoes on and bobs your auntie.

    Ahhh, cool.

These lycra clad triathlete types have fancy ways of doing everything.

The other thing I meant to ask was how do you deal with Garmins and changing what your doing within the same event? I'm guessing there is a better way of changing it from run mode to bike mode then stopping the timer and holding the "mode" button on my 310xt before restarting it.

You can set it up so that the sport changes when you press the lap button, it's there somewhere in the manual as I've never used it.

Do you know if you need to turn off the auto lap as well?

I would say so, I left it on accidentally for gaelforce, didn't realise till I went to check my times for each stage where I pressed lap only to discover I had almost 70 laps. But as I said, I know the feature exists but I never went to use it, I'd have to read the manual.

Found something in the menus now that seems to let you set different events for each stage. I'll have to have a play with it.

Got some of those elastic laces yesterday and added them to my racing shoes. Won't be using them on courses that potentially have mud, but that was incredibly simple and they felt perfectly secure enough for a bit of road/ trail racing.

    Where's Krusty?

The 305 can be set to multi-sport. Into your setup and create an event. I can't remember exactly how to do it and i don't have the manual to hand.

But yes, it can be done and you can track your transition times. Each push of the lap button triggers the next stage in the recording.
