Are there any Archers in Limerick that are active in the sport at present ?
I'm looking at some stage in the future to try it to see if I like it.
(I've only ever fired a handful of shots down through the years
despite having an old cheap compound bow gathering dust for the last 15 years never getting used due to some ass dry fireing it and causing a little damage)

There are plenty of places that do the whole group/corporate days out but
its not really learning anything its more or less fire a few shots and go home.

Was looking for someplace I could try and maybe get a bit of coaching or someplace you could turn up to and shoot casually. (ie non competitively )

As I don't drive it has to be local or accessible by public transport.
(There's a bus to UL at least which may be a good spot if NON-Students
    can turn up semi-regularly)

They used to do a little archery in the place I work in the sports and social club
I asked about it about a decade ago but nobody was actively doing it so they donated their equipment to UL.

UL seem to be the only club that I can see in Limerick but their
forum appears to be non-active and taken over by spam bots
and no moderator seems to be active blocking them:
    http://www.skynet.ie/~archery/flibbles/index.php

Cant tell when the page was last updated as the calendar appears to have
activities from 2010 Current members only show 18 people? surely there
is more than that in the entire of Limerick ?

I used to do fencing a few years back and some of the lads did field archery
but their website has not been updated since 2007.

I read before that the UL club (Ireland) allow non students not sure if its still holds
    true or not.

    Hi Bullets,

UL Archery Club are active all year around. We also take non-student members, as long as they are over the age of 18 years old.

We cater for both the competitive and the social archer, and you are free to come and go as you like. We will be starting a beginners course on the 12th of September, which will last for 6 weeks.

The best way for you to join the club would be to come down to the UL Clubs and Socs Recruitment Fair, which will be on in the UL Arena on Wednesday the 7th of September from 5pm to 9pm. There we will be able to sign you up and answer any further questions you may have. As our membership is all done online now, before coming along, it would be advisable to pre-register on www.cs.ul.ie, as this will speed up the process of joining the club.

If you have any further questions, just fire away!

That's great info & news thanks very much!
    Will hopefully be there.

For some reason I kinda like all things shooting, since I casually go
target shooting with rifle, do clays with shotgun, and fencing and airsoft.
Mmmm seems to be a pattern of sports which involve something pointy
    making holes in things.

Dunno how I've never got around to trying archery Properly
when I was doing fencing the same people did field archery and I
somehow never ended up going out with them trying it.

I asked about it over 10 years ago in work when they did it sometimes.
but at the time the work club was inactive,
and over the years kept meaning to get around to trying it,
it was not until earlier this week where I fired a few shots on a work day
out that It sparked up the interest again and found I enjoyed it.

[Edit: gonna have to force my impulsive buying habits out of my mind until then cos I've been fighting the urge
    to purchase equipment online]

    Another option here.

Yep forcing myself not to at the moment,
And looking forward to when UL start the beginners course :)

I've been drooling over some of the stuff on
    http://www.bowsports.com
    This caught my eye
    http://www.bowsports.com/acatalog/copy_of_Hoyt_-_Horizon_-_Kit__3.html

But want to get a few lessons first and make sure I've get a correctly sized
bow. (and of course to make sure I actually like it) I think I'm about 27inch draw length, from what I've read it advised to get cheap limbs and not go over 30lbs draw weight starting out.

When I fired a few shots a few years back the arrows I was using did not have the correct spine stiffness? for the bow I was using so they went everyplace, but more recently a few weeks back having tried it again I quite enjoyed it when the arrows hit the targets without issue. (albeit with targets fairly close)
