    Advice appreciated?
I was offered 2k ball park over the phone on a Volvo V40 trade in against a BMW 3 series tourer.
    The volvo details are;
    Good clean car
    4 new tyres
Diesel, sports pack, black car, black leather seats,
    157k
    2003
    NCT due next month.

2K seems a bit on the low side to me.
    Am I being unreasonable??
    Regards
    John

How well is the BMW priced?

Concentrate on the cost to change - i.e. the size of the cheque you need to pay.
If he pushed the price on the Beemer up by €5k he could offer you €7k for your car.

Bring the Volvo in to him, any salesman would (or at least should) be nervous to offer top-dollar for a car sight unseen.

    Will do. Thanks Chris.

I agree with the advice given, the important figure is the cost to change. Many dealers are trying to underprice their competitors in this difficult time. They can't offer a retail car at rock bottom price and at the same time offer top money for your car.
If you can live with the hassle, it would be a better deal to sell your car privately (for a higher figure) then go in and bargain hard on the price of the replacement as you are paying totally in cash.

As Chris said its always the cost to change figure. Once your car goes over the magic 100k miles in Ireland it becomes undesirable for dealers to take in. Its a silly attitude as service history etc should mean more than mileage. Would definitely go down the private sale route and increase your haggle power with having no trade in
