    I have/had a I-12 and Franchi pi$$e$ me off:mad:.

Out in the mountains a bit back, let three shots fly at the clay, and I hit all three (by three I mean none). Anyhow, the ammo is weak and not locking the slide back. No problem, just grab the handle...

    Where's the handle?

Fecking thing is gone, flew out while cycling. An hour of looking and it is time to go.

Turns out it is a common problem.

    Emailed Franchi, no reply.

Called Franchi and left a message, no reply.

Ask away, maybe I can help.

    Hey Guys
sorry for the late response, have been away..the thing is a friend of mine has bought a Franchi 612 VS second hand and when we striped it I relised there was no enertia spring in the bolt.

As it is the same action design as my Benelli M3 which has a spring in the bolt, is his missing??

Did the gun work without the spring ?

Generally manufacturers differ slightly in design.

Also, the M3 differs from the Franchi because it is both a pump and semi auto.

Yes you are correct. Though they are very similar the two actions work in very different ways. With the Binelli, once fired the inertia spring is compressed and sends the bolt body rearwards unlocking the bolt head which is then forced rearwards by the recoil of the spent cartridge, ejecting it. With the Franchi, being gas operated it is the gas that sends the bolt rearwards unlocking the bolt head, and it is at this point I think without an inertia spring in place to cushion the bolt head it will collide off the bolt body.

Ideally if there is someone out there with a franchi 612 VS semi auto can you let me know if there is indeed an inertia spring in the action.

    Thanks

im not sure i know which spring you are talking about
do you mean the spring that recycles the gun, ie makes the bolt bounce back against the barrel?

from the looks of it, the spring goes over the magazine tube

    http://www.ada.ru/guns/exploded/franchi/franchi.gif

some guns have a return spring in the stock too, but some dont
i would consider an intertia spring to be the spring behind the intertia block in an o/u

    Hey baal
Its a coil spring inside the bolt itself. (Marked A8 on your link).
    Thanks for the picture ;)

Yes Gunhappy that's the very one...
The thing is im still not sure if there should be an inertia spring in the Franchi or not  and the one in my Benelli is too big to fit in the Franchi.

Is it working without the spring ?

can you see excessive wear ?

    Not anymore bud!
The guide rods broke between the recoil spring and the bolt.. and right in the middle of a great days pigeon shooting :(

Thanks very much bud for trying to help..
Unlike the benelli, the guide rods and the bolt on the Franchi are all the one piece.
When we stripped the gun for the first time we noticed one of the guide rods was cracked, I presumed it was the absence of the inertia spring was to blame.. (Hence the OP)
My friend got it welded as good as new but it only lasted a short time.( around 40 pigeons later ) It broke this time..game over.

Not sure what he can do now as it's no more good.
    Anyway thanks again to all.
