Just a warning to everyone.I left my car in the long term car park in dublin airport and it was broken into when i got back.No one in the daa gave a toss and said there was nothing they could do. pitch black there at night and no security.in my view you would be better off leaving your car in one of the nearby hotels and takingtheir shuttle bus to the airport.Apparently their is widespread damage to cars and cars stolen in the long term carpark and the DAA dont give a damn.the new prepay system reads your number plate on the way out so if someone nicks a car and its prepaid they just drive through the barriers

Anytime Ive ever come through there, Ive seen cars with broken windows so they are very dodgy.

i can understand cars getting broken into but it was really the attitude of the daa parking staff that drove me mad.they couldnt care less and lets face it the amount you pay you would expect some kind of service or security.dont want to be slagging anyone but the staff were arrogant and extremly unhelpful

Yeah i pictured the place to be very secure. Sorry to hear about your car, is there signs up to say park at owners risk? As if not you might be able to follow them for damages. If they are supplying a service like this you would imagine they would have decent security.

I parked in one of the Parksmart car parks lately and had no issues, it was behind a big security gate that required a PIN to leave.

Joe Duffy had a piece on a year or two ago with some people who returned to their cars on blocks minus their alloys at the DAA long term carparks. Far more risk of theft of items from the car than theft of the actual car.

It would be reasonable to assume when they are raking in around €10,000 a day or more from the car park they could atleast employ some chaps to stand guard over the place.

I've heard some horror stories about vehicles that have been damaged or broken into while left in the long term car parks.

It you live within 20 miles of the airport a return taxi journey is roughly the same price as parking the car there for 10-14 days.

so their pre pay service aids theft. urgh.

I use the long term parking at least once every two weeks, sometimes once a week for 3-5 days at a time and have never had any hassles or seen any problems.

However after reading this I have a knot in my stomach :(

I too can vouch for damage done to my car in long term car park. No security what so ever. Cars have been known to be found on blocks there. I'd just my window kicked in, they got a torch. Pain in whole driving home sitting on shards of glass going down the m50 in the dead of night:mad:

    Red or blue car park?

Here's an option for anyone considering long term parking, the mini storage (self storage facility) in finglas also caters for cars, mobile homes caravans ect. €12 euro a week and 24 hr access and security. They have not had a single car damaged or broken into. Leave your car there and get a taxi to the airport. This would still prob work out cheaper than 2 weeks in long term parking at i think about 50 quid a week! My parents did this in july when they went away and said they will never use the airport parkng again

the blue long term seems isolated enough alright... the red long term would probably be more patrolled. but then again theres nothing to stop someone getting on the shuttle bus at night in the dark and just getting off at the end of the car park where its dark and easy targets...
surely DAA should be more responsible?

I have parked in the QuickPark Car Park plenty of times, as have many of my family and never had any issues there, and any time I have been there, there has been someone walking around the car park.

Also, the pre-paid parking there requires you to enter a pin they send you to enter and exit the car park.

+1 for QP. I've parked there weekly for years and never had any such problems. They're quick to help also if you have a flat battery.

    Any legal minds out there??

I can understand that if I park in the car park of say the local mace/Chinese takeaway/extravision type place, hotel car park, supermarket car park etc. that it’s free and therefore ‘are parked at owner’s risk. It’s for free so what can you expect!!

However if I go to say in this instance Dublin airport car park or just say to any multi story car park which you pay for surely there must be some kind of legal contract – you have paid for goods/service. You have paid them to use their facilities surely there should be an expectation of security?

having your car broken in to would seem to me a defect in this paid for service in the same way that say if you bought a pair of shoes and the sole came off after a week ??

Legal advice isn't permitted however my opinion would be...

There is no negligence by the DAA. They do factually have "Airport Police" patrol the Car Parks during the days and nights and to that extent thats all they are obliged to do. They have a broken link to here about their terms and conditions. I'm sure they would disclaim themselves from loss in this. Could'nt see a case being brought against them and suceeding.

Never dawned on me that this could happen! I use the Red long term car park regularly and have done so over the last 6 years and haven't had a problem yet but its given me food for thought re the prepaid system.

and to make matters worse my front number plate was nicked aswell and obviously the machine didnt read the plate so i pressed the help button told the girl it was prepaid she asked me for the number gave it too her and she said that was fine.barrier up and didnt notice the plate was gone till the morning cause of the way i had parked

"Pay for your parking ? No ! Just rob somebodies number plate in the hope they have pre-paid"

I thought that system was kind of clever. It's not. It's clearly being abused.

    Oh great :(

I was just grumbling at how expensive they all were and now I see this!

I've used Quickpark a few times before but now they're considerably more expensive than the DAA blue AND red car parks.

Yes. Quickpark has become more expensive than the others. But I use them all the time for the last 3 years and beside the dust on the car after being away for a week or two there were no other problems ever.

Beware. Quickpark will drop you at Terminal 2 but will not pick you up. YOu have to walk about 1.5 miles or so to get through the snaking terminals to get back to the bus at the far side of Terminal 1 Executive Car park.

It's not even a quarter mile.

The exagerration was due to the fact it is stupid building a terminal and not having adequate services to it.

Also considering Aer Lingus had us check in at Terminal 2 and then make us walk into Terminal one and to one of the first ever gates in the terminal to catch our flight. False advertising saying your flight is at Terminal 2. At least Ryanair are honest enough to say their flights leave from a Terminal in Swords. :p

Hmm. I think people miss the point a little. I've seen cars broken into in large car parks (paid services) everywhere in the country. Wherever there are large amounts of parked cars - you are going to have car crime.

Obvious advice but pertinent - why do thieves break into one car and not the one next to it? Usually the owner has left something of value on the parcel shelf, on a seat, in a pocket or cup-holder. Even a few coins left in plain view will get your window smashed.
So when you park up anywhere - devoid your cabin of everything ! If you leave CD's, your stereo facade (removable usually) or money or a jacket visible - you are asking for trouble.

To those who get broken into - sorry about it. But there must have been something the thief saw that made him say "I'm havin' that".

I'd say 90% of break-ins are like that. Maybe 10% are just plain vandalism.

f#ck my car's in the red park till friday, left it there a few times before with no hassle but can see how easy it would be for someone to f#ck with it if they wanted to.does anyone know if the car park's covered by cctv,if it isn't it should be.

I always take the bus, cheaper than parking charges.

    From Galway definitely.
25 quid will get you to the airport and back.

Pity that parking in Galway is even more expensive than at the airport.

    Hi.
A quick search reveals that a lot of the hotels close to the airport are doing a deal on long term parking . The best price at present appears to be Euro 4 per day in The White House on the Derry road. This includes transfers. From the info on the site it appears as if you are given a phone number to call when you arrive back in the airport and you will be collected at any time.
Has anyone used this service ?.

I stayed at the Carlton flying to the UK once. Hated the return experience. Bus took ages to pick us up - good 20 minutes.

When you use their car park you accept their terms and conditions, part of which state:

    http://www.dublinairport.com/gns/to-from-the-airport/car-parking/prebooking-terms-conditions.aspx

Fairly sure that means fup all, same as the signs up in every car park around the country saying "left at owners risk" mean nothing. I'd be seeking proper legal advice tbh.

Have used them twice so far and so far, so good.
Reasonable prices and looks safe enough, but bad things can always happen anywhere.
    One thing on the transfers:
Allow 20 minutes for a shuttle bus to arrive. Sometimes there's only one bus and if it has just left for the airport (or the car park on the way back), it can take some time for it to do the round trip.
Waited 40 minutes once because the driver had just left, his shift had ended, another driver took over and he didn't seem to know I was waiting.
Was picked up eventually, but allow for extra time.
Have the number for the crowd ready and call them when you're 10-20 minutes away, or directly from the aircraft as soon as it has landed.
Otherwise you may have to wait a bit.
But other than that they're grand and I don't mind waiting a bit, this service mightn't suit people who cut it fine timewise.

    True indeed.
But for the two times a year I fly out, I don't mind so much.
