I'm going to start in WIT in the next few weeks and I was wondering if the Gaming Soc is still around as a lot of the details on the website don't really give any info - I was told that WITless gamers is no longer around but I was wondering if there was another Club/Soc which is involved in Gaming - thank you in advance.

WITless Gamer are gone with a while.

There was another Gaming Society for the last 2 or 3 years but it began with PC Gaming only (just met up in one of the computer rooms). Didn't see or hear much of them last year so I don't think its active atm.

Anyone can have a go at setting up a society if they can't find one they like or one they're looking for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭Thornography

    Heya,

The lads at G4x are trying to organise events at some stage during the college year im told, http://www.facebook.com/G4Xonline

But in regards setting up a society I dont think they are going that far (since afaik, none of them are in college - just running college events sorta thing). If I were you I would pop on and talk to flanders about it on their facebook.

On the other hand, Myself and a few friends who run the Poker Soc. out there, Would also be interested in helping/setting up an actual gaming society.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 84 ✭✭Lacoona

If there is no gaming society I would be willing to set one up, I'd need some help as my experiences are based around PC games. Anyone interested let me know :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 984 ✭✭✭XtraFalcon

I think we could all contribute something to the Soc if we try to set one up - I'd like to at least try with some people to set it up - after all I'm sure that most people in WIT have some sort of gaming device.

I run the poker society in the WIT, it could I suppose be part of the gaming society in a way, but yes I agree, lots of people could contribute which would be great!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭Thornography

presume they mean the sports hall? although it was in the auditorium for us last year. the sports hall is beside the bar and gym, way off over to the left if you come in off the cork road.

there'll be plenty of people around to ask anyway.

I'm going into SSD year 2 & a myself & a few of my classmates were on about a gaming society on Monday. I'd love to see one started but wouldn't have the time myself to set it up, but would definitely become a member if one was to start. I play PS3 mostly & a bit of pc & xbox. I wouldn't call myself good by any means but I do enjoy playing. Online I mostly play FIFA, Bad company 2.

Myself and 2 friends went to the clubs & societies office on Thursday, spoke to the chap in the office who was very helpful & got all the forms to go about it. The lads have to meet with a few people from the college in next week or 2 to speak about our plans. I probably won't be involved myself directly but will give a hand if needed. Its not definite that it will happen yet but we are hoping that the college will accept the request & the club can go ahead as the ideas that have been put about seem to be very good. I'll post up here if there is more information in the next few weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 310 ✭✭Dunnie1982

So here's the latest on the gaming society.
The lads hope to be set up in time for clubs & societies days next week, College Street campus on Monday 26th and the Cork Road campus Tuesday 27th. If we are there will be a table with more information where you can talk to the lads and join if you are interested. The Society now has a twitter, Facebook & official website, so visit us for more news and information as it happens.

PlayStation 3, PC & Xbox 360. We don't know what games yet, it will probably depend on what the members want. We will be in the college street campus tomorrow and the main campus on Tuesday for clubs and societys day, where will have membership forms and we should be able to answer any questions which you may have.

Will the club be based up at college street campus aswell?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭Dreadful

Yeah, I'd love to set up Gaming Soc.
Im heavy FPS and MMO player. Such as Battlefield series and Wow.
I also have a spare room which could fit up to 8-14 pcs alone, plus xboxs/ps3s etc.

Anyone who is more interested about this give me a text on 0863221917. Name is Andy =)
Will the club be based up at college street campus aswell?

My place is just around the corner from Storm Cinema, the Infirmary. =)

Main Campus only for the time being anyway. Anyone in either campus is welcome to join, as with all clubs & societys. Today at the clubs & societys day in college street we had a good turnout & we will be in the main campus tomorrow between 11 and 3 in the F corridor.

Thanks to everyone for showing up on Monday & Tuesday, we really appreciate the interest in the club. People were mostly positive about us & complimented the PlayStation setup, even those who weren't interested in gaming. Adam should be emailing everyone who joined in the next few days to let them know about our first Meeting/Gaming night. Anyone who may have missed us on the day & are interested in joining up please contact the clubs & societys office.

    This sounds interesting...

It's a shame that this might be my final year at WIT.

I'm in the third year of SSD (Small world eh?) and unless I do the add-on, I'll be done.

    The scheduled start of the gaming society in D02 tomorrow ( Tuesday 4th ) has been postponed. A meeting regarding the gaming society is scheduled to take place in room F04 ( The business building with the Spar shop in the Cork Road Campus ) at 5:30 on Thursday the 6th of October. This will be followed by some gaming in D02 later that evening. We hope that everyone who is a member in the club will attend the meeting and have their say. We will be discussing many topics about the society including;
    Annual Calendar
    Equipment
    Lifts
    Tournaments
    And many more.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you of our Website www.playwitgames.com and our facebook and twitter ( PlayWITGames ). You don't want to go down that route for second year mate, trust me.I'd basically be feeding you to the sharks. The lecturer's are no fool's for second year and will sniff it out. Then we'll both be screwed.

Just study like a crazy mofo and you'll be fine.

    Planning any tournaments?

I can't come on Tuesday's as it clashes with something else, but wouldn't mind attending a tournament for a bit of fun.
